‎Naar aanleiding van de publicatie van het boek Guy Baekelmans - een spirituele reis, toont het FelixArt Museum een selectief overzicht van de werken van de kunstenaar. Begonnen in 1968 met figuren en vormen in de stijl van Pop Art en Hard Edge, voerde Guy Baekelmans ( 1940, Berchem) al snel vereenvoudigingen in kleur en vorm door. De evolutie naar het constructivisme ging in de eerste 20 jaar gepaard met een vroege interesse in de Oosterse filosofie n en leidde tot optische en dynamische wisselwerkingen geconstrueerd in het vierkant. Samen met o.a. P.R. De Poortere en Guy Vandenbranden richtte Guy Baekelmans in 1972 het 'Internationaal Studiecentrum voor Constructieve Kunst' op. Vanaf de jaren 80 neemt het belang van het driedimensionale toe met autonome en dikwijls monumentale sculpturen. Er volgt een vrijere expressie vanuit een boeddhistisch universalisme, wat Guy Baekelmans beschrijft als een 'opening naar onuitputtelijke referenties buiten tijd en ruimte, ontstaan door de interactie tussen de innerlijke microkosmos en de uiterlijke macrokosmos, ondeelbaar en in totale symbiose.'‎

‎This book is devoted to a remarkable aspect of Rubens painted production. It investigates and catalogues not only works that Ludwig Burchard (1886?1960) gathered into the category of Study Heads, but also head studies by artists closely connected to Rubens's workshop which were demonstrably used in his paintings. The existence of a stock of study heads or tronies allowed Rubens and his collaborators to exploit the same figures in many different contexts and create satisfying variety among the numerous characters involved in mythological, biblical or historical scenes. In Rubens?s work, study heads constitute an exceptional type of painting in that they were created not as autonomous works of art, but as a means to an end, an indispensable part of his artistic practice. Yet, even in this marginal category of work, Rubens achieves maximum artistic expression with an economy of means, as for example in the iconic Four Studies of the Head of an African Man in the Brussels Museum. The originals of the study heads remained together until the sale of Rubens?s possessions at his death in 1640. Over the centuries, many of Rubens?s tronies have undergone transformation. Panels featuring several heads were cut up quite early on to be sold as separate pictures on the art market, and some tronies were converted by later artists into specific characters or even genre scenes by adding extra planks of wood and giving the heads distinctive clothes and attributes. This book aims to reconstruct as far as possible the original appearance of Rubens?s tronies, aided by the evidence of copiesand technical research on the works themselves.‎

In 1931 the Reutter coachwork company, founded in 1906, started building prototypes of what would later be known as Volkswagen on behalf of the Porsche engineering office. In 1949 Porsche gave the order to Reutter to produce 500 bodies for the Porsche sports car, and around Easter time 1950 the first Porsche 356 ever to be constructed in Germany was finished in Reutter's factory I. Porsche bought ground from Reutter within the plot of its factory II in order to build a new construction site for manufacturing motors. At the same time Reutter moved the complete bodywork to factory II in Zuffenhausen and from that moment most of the legendary Porsche 356 were manufactured in intensive cooperation and side by side. Besides those vehicles made by hand in serial-production Porsche 356 presents many prototypes and special cars made for Porsche up to the point of collective evolution of the later called Porsche type 911. The book's focus is on the description of the development of a Porsche 356-body, colorfully illustrated and detailed as never before. Much of the material used was taken from the Reutter-family archive. Previously unpublished documents and pictures were found in several institutional and private archives, especially the archive of Porsche itself.‎

Aanvankelijk is er enige argwaan rond zijn leeftijd, maar die wordt algauw gecounterd door het gerucht dat hij een magneet zou zijn voor internationaal fris talent en niet terugdeinst om zijn duidelijke visie door te drukken. Op de muur van de kantine komt een duidelijke boodschap te staan: "Wij zijn een operahuis, creatief & gepassioneerd, relevant & actueel. En we delen deze goesting met iedereen." Dit is de aanzet van een 720-pagina's tellend boek over de tien "Cahn Jaren" bij Opera Vlaanderen. Het resultaat van gedurfd en consistent out of the box thinking. Het monumentale boek dat in een kunstige box huist - naar keuze met werk van Koen van den Broek, Kati Heck of Maurizio Cattelan en ToiletPaper - neemt de lezer mee langs een 70-tal operaproducties. De exclusieve fotokatern is ware eye candy. Maar toch is Opera out of the box meer dan een retrospectieve. Het geeft een inkijk in de keuken van het operahuis. Het laat zien hoe belangrijk de neus van de intendant is bij castings, hoe vruchtbaar de kruisbestuiving met andere kunstdisciplines kan zijn, n hoe gewaagd het is om met first timers als regisseur te werken. Het denken in cycli, of hoe ge ngageerd opera wel kan zijn, hoe het operahuis communiceert, vervolledigen het plaatje. "Het boeiende bij opera vind ik de wrijving tussen het verwachtingspatroon van het publiek en wat je uiteindelijk brengt. Toegegeven, ik ben soms graag een agent provocateur. Nooit vrijblijvend, altijd om tot nadenken te stemmen." Aviel Cahn Cahn zwengelde graag het debat aan, waarbij hij de controverse niet schuwde. Op gezette tijden werd het publiek wakker geschud en kreeg het de ruimte om kritisch te blijven tegenover de producties en hun statements. Seizoensthema's verbonden bekende titels met weinig opgevoerde werken. Er waren geen heilige huisjes wat interpretatie betreft. Ook de bondgenoten in dit proces zijn niet de usual suspects. We zien hoe gerenommeerde kunstenaars, modeontwerpers, theaterregisseurs, filmmakers en acteurs vaak voor het eerst de arena van het operahuis binnentraden. Het leverde telkens verrassende invalshoeken op. Dankzij deze gangmakers vonden vaak nieuwe publieksgroepen voor het eerst hun weg naar de opera. Het ergste commentaar dat je als medewerker van de intendant op een creatief voorstel kon krijgen, was: dat is saai. En dat is Opera out of the box allerminst. Het is een boek dat niet louter de operaliefhebber kan plezieren, maar ook boeiend is voor iedereen die avontuurlijk genoeg is om een bijzonder universum te verkennen. Aan het boek werkten 16 auteurs en 10 interviewees mee uit binnen- en buitenland, waaronder recensenten, artistiek leiders, dramaturgen, kerkelijk leiders, theatermakers, librettisten, componisten en regisseurs. Van oscarwinnaar Christoph Waltz en duivels regisseur Peter Konwitschny, tot Bisschop Johan Bonny en cultuurpaus Jerry Aerts, van kunstminnaar Johan Thielemans tot Guy Joosten, ze komen allemaal aan het woord. De bomen die hij schildert zijn niet zomaar het onderwerp omwille van hun picturale en pittoreske betekenis. De berglandschappen zijn er niet om het landschap en de woningen niet om hun architecturale pretenties, hij schildert ze om wat er niet meer is. Afwezigheid speelt een grote rol. Aan de bomen hebben ooit mensen gehangen, meestal na een lynchpartij. De huizen, of het nu riante villa?s zijn, modernistisch of romantisch aandoende stulpjes, zijn elk sc ne geweest voor een misdaad. Geweld is een blijvend gegeven in het werk van deze nochtans vreedzame kunstenaar. Hoe onschuldig zijn titels ook mogen klinken, de kijker mag zich steeds verwachten aan een of andere dreiging. Zijn reeks ?Smiling Faces? toont de gezichten van misdadigers, gebaseerd op zogenaamde mug shots, de foto?s die de politie van delinquenten maakt. Daan Rau Lege landschappen met verdwaalde bomen; verlaten bergpanorama?s; suburban huizen zonder spoor van leven; koude, afwezige mug shots; cartooneske schetsen van geboeide mensen; fragmenten van gezichten van slachtoffers... De schilderijen die Klaus Verscheure maakt, roepen steeds weer dezelfde vraag op: ?Waarom toont de kunstenaar dit (lege) beeld, wat gebeurt er hier?? Still little known, these works on paper are fraught with the same audacity and impertinence that his paintings, eroticism haloed and mythologies updated. One hundred selected drawings constitute this publication, showing the practice of drawing, not as one preparatory step to his paint job, but especially as plastics experiences, very free, allowing him to explore techniques as diverse as mine graphite, pastel or watercolor. After literary studies, in 1959 Martial Raysse made his first assemblages by enclosing small toys and toiletries in transparent boxes, in order to foreground, unfussily, the charge of emotion and visual intensity these cold little objects can hold. In 1960, his Visual Hygiene series of household implements hung around a long-handled scrubbing brush, or sunscreen products and beach toys crowned by an advertising dummy, ushered into the realm of art a world that is new, antiseptic and pure , that of the supermarkets and advertising for the consumer society. This reappropriation of objects that are supremely banal aligned him with the experiments of Arman, Spoerri and Tinguely, with whom he founded the New Realists group in 1960. Soon regarded as the young French artist who came closest to American Pop Art, between 1961 in 1966 Raysse participated in numerous artistic events throughout Europe and the United States. After 1968, Raysse underwent a shift which led him to make a sudden break with the circuit of dealers and galleries, and to withdraw to the south of France.
