‎Op 15 februari 1969 keken 3.800.000 Vlamingen naar hetzelfde tv-programma: de 4de aflevering van het feuilleton Wij, Heren van Zichem. De grondstof voor die serie waren romans en novellen van Ernest Claes (1885-1968). De schrijver, zelf geboren in Zichem, overleed kort voor de opnames begonnen. Op zijn oude dag poseerde Ernest Claes graag als de eeuwig minzame, monkelende verteller, die in zijn leven alleen maar goede mensen was tegengekomen. Maar hij behoorde tot de generatie die twee wereldoorlogen onderging. Behalve schrijver van geliefde volksboeken als De Witte (126 keer herdrukt!), was Claes ook soldaat, krijgsgevangene, politiek militant, belijdend katholiek, ambtenaar, journalist, dagboekschrijver en repressieslachtoffer. Hij zocht zich als Vlaams-nationalist een weg in de woelige twintigste eeuw, langs de afgrond van het fascisme. Ernest Claes, de biografie van een Heer uit Zichem is een afgewogen portret, waarvoor de auteur kon gebruikmaken van het rijke, nooit eerder onderzochte prive-archief en van het gerechtelijke collaboratiedossier van de man die lange tijd Vlaanderens populairste schrijver was. Bert Govaerts (1952) werkte tot 2015 voor de VRT, waar hij zich specialiseerde in historische documentaires, zoals de reeks Land in de Kering, over de gedaanteverwisseling van Vlaanderen tussen 1950 en 2000. Eerder publiceerde hij bij Houtekiet Ik Alleen!, een biografie over Albert De Vleeschauwer.‎

Villa Muller, een van de mooiste art Deco en modernistische architectuur in Belgie, heeft de naam van de opdrachtgevers, realisatie van Architect Marcel Spittael is verwant met andere realisaties van robert Mallet Stevens, Jozef Hoffmann en ook Michel Polak, 1938 Sint-Genesius-Rode; Monumentale villa in nieuwe zakelijkheid gelegen te midden van een omhaagde tuin op een hoekperceel tussen de Beukenlaan en de Haagdoornlaan in de wijk Middenhut. Hoofdvolume van twee bouwlagen onder plat dak, met hoger opgetrokken westvleugel van drie bouwlagen, het geheel uitgevoerd in geelbruine baksteen met dudokvoeg. Onregelmatige travee-indeling. Strakke, zakelijke vormgeving met kenmerkende verspringende volumes. Inkompartij geaccentueerd door een halfronde erker op pilotis, op de verdieping voorzien van een venster met gebogen glas en fijne horizontale roedeverdeling. Doorgetrokken lateien in witte natuursteen boven de rechthoekige muuropeningen zorgen voor een horizontaliserend effect. Typerende vlaggenmast aan de oostgevel. Vooruitspringende dubbele garage uit de bouwperiode, voorzien van een bandvenster met fijne roedeverdeling, ten westen aansluitend aan het hoofdvolume. Binnen het patrimonium van de gemeente is dit een zeldzaam, grootschalig en verzorgd uitgewerkt voorbeeld van baksteenarchitectuur uit het interbellum. Dit 'maison-palais', een toonbeeld van art deco en modernisme, zou naar verluidt ook qua interieur gaaf bewaard zijn.‎

‎Cornelis van Poelenburch was one of the very few painters of the Dutch Golden Age to acquire international renown during his lifetime. Only three Dutch artists were honoured with mentions by all of the seventeenth-century biographers who included Netherlandish artists, the others being Rembrandt and Gerrit Dou. His paintings were prized by well-to-do and often aristocratic collectors who were willing to pay high prices for them. Grand-Duke Cosimo II de? Medici, for example, kept four of Poelenburch?s paintings in his private quarters and Stadholder Frederick Henry and his consort owned more works by him than any other Dutch artist. He was a pupil of the influential Utrecht painter Abraham Bloemaert, worked for eight years in Italy, and except for a period of four years when he lived in London and received an annual stipend from King Charles I, spent the rest of his life in Utrecht. Poelenburch?s idyllic, mostly small-sized landscapes on copper or panel and done in a highly refined style and technique usually feature a ?history?: a biblical, mythological or pastoral subject. Nowadays he is known primarily as the leading artist of the first generation of ?Italianate? landscape painters, but in his own time he was lauded mainly for his lively figures with their crisp contours and animated gestures. From the mid-nineteenth century, Poelenburch?s paintings came to be dismissed as ?un-Dutch? and were subsequently neglected and forgotten, together with those of many other seventeenth-century painters who did not fit into the mould of ?Dutch realism?. ‎Naar aanleiding van 50 jaar 'Brussel 1958 wereldtentoonstelling' verzorgde de Universiteitsbibliotheek Gent in 2008 een prachtige uitgave van een deel van hun fotocollectie. De foto's maken deel uit van een postkaartenverzameling die in 2006 door de bibliotheek werd aangekocht. Het is het fotoarchief van de uitgever Willy Nackaerts uit Sinaai, dat jarenlang zorgvuldig werd bewaard door een van hun fotografen Etienne De Mulder. De originele glazen negatieven werden in gescand door het Atelier van de Boekentoren. De selectie werd gemaakt op basis van de documentaire waarde en artistieke kwaliteit.
