‎Naar aanleiding van 750 jaar Hove schreven Jelle Simons en Davy Verbeeck een boek over de rijke geschiedenis van ons dorp. Schepen van Cultuur Gerda Lambrecht: ?Het was Hugo Peerlinck van verzamelaarsclub Hofila die de aanzet gaf om opzoekingswerk te gaan doen rond 750 jaar Hove. Het vorige geschiedenisboek dateert uit 1957. Een actualisatie was zeker aan de orde. Na vijf maanden verzamelen en schrijven zijn we trots dit nu voor te stellen. We beoogden een vlot leesbaar boek uit te geven waarin ook duidelijk blijkt dat onze slogan niet voor niets 'het dorp is een wereld' is: wat gebeurde er in de wereld en welke weerslag hadden die gebeurtenissen op Hove? Ik denk dat de auteurs daar met de hulp van Hugo (Hofila) en Frans Sermeus en Eddy Beyens van Heemkundige Kring De Markgraaf met glans in geslaagd zijn."‎

Skyhigh is my place is de eerste uitvoerige monografie over de in Iran geboren kunstenaar Shahpour Pouyan. Het brengt belangrijke teksten en beelden samen over zijn praktijk. De publicatie vertrekt vanuit Shahpour Pouyan's ambitieuze installatie Skyhigh is my place in Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, wat MDD's patio-zaal gedeeltelijk vulde met tarwe en een grootschalige replica van een militaire verkeerstoren omkeerde. Door deze twee elementen te verenigen, roept Pouyan een beeld op van de Iraanse Revolutie van 1979 en in het bijzonder de betrokkenheid van zijn vader bij dit historische moment. Op het hoogtepunt van de revolutie nam Pouyans vader, als ingenieur voor straaljagers, deel aan een collectieve poging om tarwe te planten op zijn militaire basis in de buurt van Isfahan. De kortstondige landbouwactiviteit op een militaire basis staat voor de vele tegenstrijdigheden van de Revolutie van 1979, waar een technologische obsessie met het luchtruim samenging met patriottische liefde voor het platteland. Deze publicatie biedt een diepe blik op het recente werk van de kunstenaar Shahpour Pouyan en bevat onder andere: -Een essay van critica en kunsthistorica Media Farzin, dat ingaat op de historische en architectonische achtergrond van Skyhigh is my place door het binnen het bredere oeuvre van Pouyan te plaatsen -Een gesprek tussen kunsthistoricus Pepe Karmel en Pouyan. ‎De Belgische kunstenaar Frans Masereel (1889-1972) zette zich in voor de sociale strijd van zijn tijd en onderschreef de communistische idealen, die de greep van het kapitaal op alle sectoren van het leven hekelden. In 1935 en 1936 maakte hij twee reizen naar de Sovjet-Unie om te zien of er in het Oosten wel degelijk iets nieuws aan de gang was. Dit boek beschrijft de lotgevallen van een vriend van het volk, aan de hand van zeldzame documenten en bronnen uit Russische archieven. De in 1889 in Blankenberge geboren Frans Masereel ging al snel spijbelen tijdens de lessen Schone Kunsten in Gent om de mysteries van de stad beter te kunnen doorgronden, in het gezelschap van de etser Jules De Bruycker. In 1911 verhuisde hij naar Parijs, waar hij zijn tekeningen in de pers (Les Hommes du jour, Le Rire) publiceerde dankzij de tussenkomst van de journalist Henri Guilbeaux, en waar hij zich vertrouwd maakte met de houtsnede bij een leverancier van kunstenaarsbenodigdheden. Toen Masereel in 1915 naar Zwitserland trok om nuttig werk te verrichten bij het Internationaal Comit van het Rode Kruis, maakte hij kennis met pacifistische schrijvers (Ren Arcos, Pierre Jean Jouve, Romain Rolland, Stefan Zweig). De oorlog alleen kon zijn bestaan niet rechtvaardigen door de soldaten te elimineren, dus stelde Masereel voor om de drama's ervan te graveren in de pacifistische pers (Demain, Les Tablettes, La Feuille) en in zijn twee eerste gegraveerde reeksen Sta op, doden en De doden spreken, die in 1917 werden gepubliceerd. Het jaar daarop bracht hij 25 beelden van de passie van een man uit, een beeldverslag zonder woorden in houtsneden over het thema klassenstrijd. Aangemoedigd door de schrijvers van Mitteleuropa om daarin voort te gaan, begon hij in het interbellum - parellel met zijn activiteiten als illustrator en uitgever voor Le Sablier - aan een reeks xylografische romans die we vandaag kunnen 'lezen' als een compromisloos verslag over een zieke samenleving, bedwelmd door vooruitgang en winst. Frans Masereel legde zijn beitel voorgoed neer in Nice waar hij in 1972 overleed.‎

‎1958, Hasselt. Cuyvers studeerde begin jaren tachtig af aan het Hoger Architectuurinstituut van de stad Gent. Na zijn studies werkte hij in de Verenigde Staten bij Preston Phillips en Venturi, Rauch & Scott Brown. Daarna was hij stagiair bij Paul Robbrecht en Hilde Daem. Hij bleef in de jaren 1990 met dit bureau occasioneel samenwerken. In 1984 startte hij een eigen bureau in Gent, waarin hij architectuuropdrachten en wedstrijddeelnames combineerde met studiewerk, onder meer over Sarajevo en over rustplaatsen op autowegen. Cuyvers tracht aan de hand van een rechtlijnige en strenge architectuur de gangbare sociale conventies vorm te geven. Hij verwijst hierbij graag naar de Belgische context. Hij ziet deze niet als een typisch historische of stedenbouwkundige situatie maar beschouwt deze eerder als een rijk geschakeerd collectief geheugen dat, mits de juiste architecturale ingrepen, ontsloten kan worden. In 1995 wijdde de Singel een eerste solotentoonstelling aan Wim Cuyvers. Hij doceerde aan de Nederlandse academies voor bouwkunst van Tilburg en Eindhoven, en aan Sint-Lucas in Gent. ‎Avitus of Vienne is the author of the five poetic books of the Spiritual History celebrating the importance of Christ in baptismal catechesis by the glorification of the patriarchs Adam, Noah and Moses. Longtemps c l br pour ses peintures du mythe du Kalevala ou interpr t l'aune d'un discours national, son oeuvre est depuis explor dans sa grande diversit , int grant ses voyages en Afrique et au Nouveau Mexique. Apportant sa contribution la diffusion de l'art finlandais hors de ses fronti res, l'exposition et son catalogue au mus e Jacquemart-Andr sont plus circonscrite mais s'attachent de mani re plus approfondie la question de la relation de l'homme la nature, qui volue au cours sa carri re. Ethnographique ses d buts, elle se nourrit de la pens e sot rique dans les ann es 1895 pour se montrer d'une amplitude in gal e au tournant du XXe si cle. Cette volution s'accompagne d'un changement de style, du naturalisme au symbolisme. La construction de sa maison atelier Kalela en 1894, loin des villes et de la modernit , occupe une place centrale dans la d finition artistique et conceptuelle du r le de l'artiste dans la nature. Au sein de ce microcosme tourn tant vers l'ext rieur que l'int rieur, Gallen-Kallela a r alis son utopie artistique dont la port e s'exprime fortement dans son oeuvre. Une vocation de Kalela constitue donc le pivot autour duquel s'articule le parcours th matique de cet ouvrage, entre naturalisme et symbolisme. La premi re partie est consacr e une nature habit e par la paysannerie finlandaise avec des toiles impr gn es d'influences naturalistes et de l'enseignement qu'il re oit Paris dans les ann es 1880. Ensuite, l'attention est donn e sa maison-atelier, qu'il con oit lui-m me et fait construire au coeur de la nature finlandaise, pr sente la diversit de media qu'explore l'artiste, des arts graphiques aux arts d coratifs. Une importante section est ensuite consacr e aux figures mythologiques du Kalevala. L'ouvrage enfin se penche sur des paysages sauvages voquant une motion sacr e, une nature habit e par une pr sence spirituelle. A travers certains motifs, le vocabulaire de reflets, de bruissements et de silence que d veloppe Gallen-Kallela constitue l'identit du paysage finlandais depuis la fin du XIXe si cle.‎

‎In de zestiende eeuw biedt de zot een aantrekkelijk houvast om van alles te regelen. Zo schept hij luidruchtig vertier dat de gevreesde melancholie kan dempen.
