FIRST VOLUME. comprises Vol II number 13 July 1983 to number 24 June 1884; bound with Volume III number 24 July 1894 to Number 30 December 1894. Possibly lacking part 26 but the months are consecutive so almost certainly a printing error. SECOND VOLUME Vol IV number 31 January 1895 to Volume IV number 53 November 1896. Added at the rear is Swanton's paper on British Puff-Balls 6pp and Mosley's 'Catalogue of British Birds Nests and Eggs' 46pp. Signature again of Albert John Barnes contemporary cloth but hinges completely broken so the text block is sound but detached. THIRD VOLUME Volume VII number 67 January 1898 to number 80 February 1899 plus extra 57 pp of articles including Swanton's Monograph of British Boleti 13pp. Includes 6 colour plates of moths one of fungi and two of beetles. FOURTH VOLUME Volume X number 103 January 1901 to number 114 December 1901 text block completely detached from the contemporary cloth. Includes 5 colour plates two botanical two of lichens and one of moths. Some of the plates are certainly hand-coloured though fairly simple whilst others may be colour printed. Pictorial printed boards the corners worn a little slightly rubbed; red cloth spine very slightly worn. 16 pages of the main text are devoted to detailed descriptions of recommended cultivars. Farini then lists cultivar descriptions extracted from the catalogues of specialists such as John Laing & Sons H.J. Jones Sutton's John R. Box and Clibrans. The date of 1896 is confirmed in the Royal Horticultural Society Lindley Library Catalogue. RARE. Farini Guillermo Antonio 1838-1928 = William Leonard Hunt also known by the stage name The Great Farini was a well-known nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Canadian funambulist entertainment promoter and inventor as well as the first known white man to cross the Kalahari Desert on foot and survive. He also published under the name Guillermo Antonio Farini. He performed many feats on high wires above the Niagara Falls but had to be rescued when attemting to do it on stilts! His life story reads like a Boys Own adventure novel ! Horticulture appears to have come late when he retired to Forest Hill London in 1890. He obviously bred his own Begonias as many bear his name. After 1899 he and his second wife the first had fallen from his shoulders from a high-wire! moved to Germany USA and finally settled in Canada. In-Time Aviation Safety Management: Challenges and Research for an Evolving Aviation System

Decades of continuous efforts to address known hazards in the national airspace system NAS and to respond to issues illuminated by analysis of incidents and accidents have made commercial airlines the safest mode of transportation. The task of maintaining a high level of safety for commercial airlines is complicated by the dynamic nature of the NAS. The number of flights by commercial transports is increasing; air traffic control systems and procedures are being modernized to increase the capacity and efficiency of the NAS; increasingly autonomous systems are being developed for aircraft and ground systems and small aircraftaEURO"most notably unmanned aircraft systemsaEURO"are becoming much more prevalent. As the NAS evolves to accommodate these changes aviation safety programs will also need to evolve to ensure that changes to the NAS do not inadvertently introduce new risks. Real-time system-wide safety assurance RSSA is one of six focus areas for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA aeronautics program. NASA envisions that an RSSA system would provide a continuum of information analysis and assessment that supports awareness and action to mitigate risks to safety. Maintaining the safety of the NAS as it evolves will require a wide range of safety systems and practices some of which are already in place and many of which need to be developed. This report identifies challenges to establishing an RSSA system and the high-priority research that should be implemented by NASA and other interested parties in government industry and academia to expedite development of such a system. paperback

Implementation of Lung Cancer Screening: Proceedings of a Workshop

The public health burden from lung cancer is substantial: it is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Given the individual and population health burden of lung cancer especially when it is diagnosed at later stages there has been a push to develop and implement screening strategies for early detection. However many factors need to be considered for broad implementation of lung cancer screening in clinical practice. Effective implementation will entail understanding the balance of potential benefits and harms of lung cancer screening defining and reaching eligible populations addressing health disparities and many more considerations. In recognition of the substantial challenges to developing effective lung cancer screening programs in clinical practice the National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine held a workshop in June 2016. At the workshop experts described the current evidence base for lung cancer screening the current challenges of implementation and opportunities to overcome them. Workshop participants also explored capacity and access issues; best practices for screening programs; assessment of patient outcomes quality and value in lung cancer screening; and research needs that could improve implementation efforts. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop. paperback
