Although Fraser & Neave is best known as a leading conglomerate in the drinks industry in Singapore the founders Fraser & Neave started the business as printers and only branched out into drinks later. This brief introduction by the company to bazaar Malay for foreigners deals with the grammar in about ten pages and then moves on to words and conversational phrases followed by an English-Malay dictionary. A handwritten Malay love poem and its English translation have been laid in the book. Similarly there is also a handwritten note on the Makara stone found in Melaka 128 pages. Weight 0.4kg. Post free within Malaysia The cover is protected by a plastic jacket which is taped to the inside covers and the tape has dirtied with age. The first and last couple of end papers have medium tanning. The binding is tight the text is clear and there is mild tanning throughout.</p> Fraser & Neave hardcover‎

‎Die Künstlerin, als Helene Mühlthaler geboren, heiratete 1893 den Münchner Ministerialbeamten Heinrich von Frauendorfer. Sie war Schülerin von Eduard Grützner (1846-1925) und seit 1878 Mitglied des Kunstvereins München. Sie arbeitete mit dem Künstlerkreis um Franz von Lenbach (1836-1904), Franz von Stuck (1863-1928) und Friedrich August von Kaulbach (1850-1920) zusammen. Sie schuf Porträts, Genres und Stillleben und war als Graphikerin, vor allem auf dem Gebiet des Farbholzschnitts tätig. Sie war an Ausstellungen im Münchner Glaspalast, sowie in Düsseldorf und Berlin beteiligt.‎

‎One Signed Letter in the hand of a secretary four Typed Letter Signed and two Typed Notes Signed all seven 'Fred Burridge' to G. K. Menzies Secretary Royal Society of Arts.‎

‎1917 1 1918 4 and 1919 2. All on letterhead of London County Council Central School of Arts and Crafts Southampton Row W.C. London. All seven items 4to 1 p. Each docketed and bearing the stamp of the Royal Society of Arts. All good on lightly-aged paper. The first is in a secretarial hand with the other six all typed. Item One: 4 December 1917. He doesn't 'quite understand' from Menzies' letter what it is that he wants him to do. 'From what Mr. Cole said I thought the proposal was that I should join a committee the Society of Arts was forming in which case I should have to obtain the formal consent of the London County Council.' Wonders whether on the other hand Menzies might 'wish to call upon me occasionally when something might arise on which my opinion would be useful' Item Two: 16 January 1918. A note in which Burridge agrees to serve on the Applied Art Prizes Committee. Item Three: 22 March 1918. Providing a list of the fifteen 'best Local Educational Authorities to write to' beginning with 'Edinburgh General Handicrafts Glasgow Carpets & General Manufacture' and ending with 'Stourbridge glass'. Each entry has been assigned in a pencil annotation to either the 'School Board' 'Technical Instruction C'tee' or 'Education C'tee'. Further annotated on the reverse presumably by Menzies with fifteen names and addresses beginning with 'J. Stewart School B'd Offices Castle Terrace Edinburgh' and ending with 'W. M. Robins Technical School Stourbridge'. Item Four: 25 June 1918. Headed 'Silver Cup'. Regarding the design of the cup Burridge notes that 'Wilson as a member of the Committee is to be considered as out of the running.' Burridge does not agree with Menzies' view that 'in present circumstances Ramsden and Carr are the best people to go to because although Mr. Ramsden would no doubt give you an excellent design the work in the main would be carried out probably by a young student of mine who has only been with him some eighteen months and is therefore not in my opinion sufficiently a master of his craft to be entrusted with such a work'. Burridge's suggestion is 'that the commission be given to Mr. Charles Welch of 24 Asmun's Hill Hampstead Way Hendon N.W.4. and in my opinion perhaps the most skilful silversmith in the country.' Welch is also 'a good designer and therefore could be trusted to produce you an article of sterling merit'. Postscript: 'Since writing this I have seen Troup and he concurs'. Item Five: He is writing 'to confirm my request in our conversation over the telephone this morning that you will please destroy my letter of the 25th instant i.e. Item Five which I wish to withdraw as I have now no recommendation to make and will have nothing to do with the selection of a silversmith to do the work proposed'. Item Six: 7 March 1919. A note of two sentences: 'Thanks for yours of the 4th instant. I quite agree.' Item Seven: 22 October 1919. Note of one sentence: 'As promised in my telephone conversation this morning I return the Redsull paper herewith.' 1917 (1), 1918 (4) and 1919 (2). ‎Maler, Bildhauer, Graveur und Fotograf: Fernand Khnopff (1858-1921) ist ein vielseitiger K nstler aus einer kosmopolitischen Familie. Nach seinem Jurajahr an der Universit libre de Bruxelles nahm er von 1876 bis 1879 zusammen mit James Ensor Zeichenunterricht an der Akademie der Sch nen K nste in Br ssel. Fernand Khnopffs Lieblingsthemen sind narzisstische Selbstbeobachtung, Schlaf, sexuelle Identit t, Stille, Einsamkeit und entfremdende Landschaften. Er transzendiert die Realit t und versucht, die Vielzahl der Sinne zu erfassen. Seine Arbeit ist eher geheimnisvoll und symbolisch als real. Der K nstler malt eine fremde Welt, bev lkert von Androgynen, versteinerten St dten und stillen Frauen. Nicht zu vergessen ist seine enge Verbundenheit mit den anderen K nsten, insbesondere der Literatur, die auch bei anderen Symbolisten besteht. Zwei Arten von Frauen pr gen sein Werk: die Sphinx und der Engel. Manchmal sehen wir sie umgeben von Symbolen, manchmal als k rperloses Wesen, das durch den Raum der Erinnerung schwebt. Sie ist introvertiert und den Tr umen hingegeben. Das Aussehen der Frauen in seinen Gem lden ist sehr wichtig. Es ist ein leerer, unertr glicher Blick, der an den Tod erinnert, ins Leere blickt, an eine andere Welt erinnert. 1883 war er Mitbegr nder der Br sseler Avantgarde-Bewegung Les Vingt, f r die er das Monogramm malte. Beeinflusst von den Pr raffaeliten und insbesondere von Edward Burne-Jones besuchte Khnopff die ersten Rosenkreuzer-Salons, die ab 1892 von S r P ladan organisiert wurden. Er entwarf das Titelbild der meisten Werke des Rosenkreuzer-Magiers. 1891 stellte er in England aus und traf in London die Pr raffaeliten. Au erdem ver ffentlicht er Rezensionen und Kommentare zu belgischen K nstlern und Ausstellungen in der Zeitschrift The Studio. Auf der Ausstellung der Wiener Secession 1898 machte er sich auch international einen Namen. Der ?Maler der geschlossenen Augenlider? beeinflusste wiederum K nstler wie Edvard Munch oder Gustav Klimt. Obwohl Khnopff, wie viele symbolistische K nstler, zu seinen Lebzeiten internationale Ber hmtheit erlangte, geriet er lange Zeit in Vergessenheit. Wir werden bis in die 1970er Jahre warten m ssen, bis sein Werk wieder ins Rampenlicht r ckt.‎
