Seit 8 Tagen ist er total gelähmt, es kann Tage, Wochen, Monate dauern bis er erlöst ist, aber Rettung ist keine. Er liegt momentan in Pressburg, wo er als kleiner Beamter angestellt war, im Spital hoffnungslos darnieder [...]” (undat. Brief, um 1900). - Fünfzehnjährig bereits auf der Bühne stehend, kam die Tochter eines Universitätsprofessors über Stationen in Ischl, Hamburg, Graz und Berlin 1893 ans Wiener Raimundtheater und war dort “lange Jahre tätig, jedoch meist in unbedeutenden Rollen beschäftigt, so daß man auf Ihr Talent nicht recht aufmerksam wurde” (Eisenberg, Gr. biogr. Lex. der dt. Bühne im 19. Jh., zit. n. DBA I 362, 273). Erst durch ihre Darstellung der Baronin Couturier in Sardous ‘Marcelle’ am Carl-Theater 1898 “erkannte man, daß man es mit einer hochtalentierten Darstellerin zu thun habe” (ebd.), die aber trotzdem beständig Schwierigkeiten hatte, ein ihr entsprechendes Engagement zu finden. Später wechselte sie ans Theater in der Josefstadt. - 4 Bll. im linken Rand gelocht (minimale Textberührung). - In altem Sammlungsumschlag.

Rökk Farbfilm als Partner der R. für die Hauptrolle angefordert; es bietet sich mir dadurch eine einmalige Chance ganz gross in den Film zu kommen und ich bitte Sie inständig lieber H. Dir. Paul mir keine Schwierigkeiten zu bereiten [...]". - Harry Fuss sollte tatsächlich in dem erwähnten Film, der 1950 unter dem Titel "Kind der Donau" in die Kinos kam, als Partner von Marika Rökk, Fred Liewehr und Fritz Muliar zu sehen sein. - Der aus Wien stammende Schauspieler spielte am Raimundtheater, am Bürgertheater, am Stadttheater und am Renaissancetheater und setzte nach Kriegsende seine Laufbahn am Künstlertheater (1945 bis 1947) und am Theater in der Josefstadt (1947/1948) fort; von 1952 bis 1984 gehörte er dem Ensemble des Wiener Volkstheaters an, "wo er in zahlreichen Aufführungen mitwirkte, darunter als Alfred in der österreichischen Erstaufführung von Horváths 'Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald' am 1. Dezember 1948 mit Karl Skraup und Inge Konradi, eine Aufführung, die einer der größten Theaterskandale der Nachkriegszeit war" (Wikipedia). - Das "Kleine Haus" in der Liliengasse, dem Franz Paul als Direktor vorstand, war von 1946 bis 1950 vom Theater in der Josefstadt als Studiobühne genutzt worden.

Anschließend das Leipziger Stadttheaters leitend, wechselte er 1883 als Mitbegründer und Leiter an das Deutsche Theater Berlin und kehrte 1888 als Direktor an das Wiener Burgtheater zurück. Der Gatte der Schauspielerin Florentine Förster übersetzte Gesellschaftsstücke aus dem Französischen, bearbeitete ältere Stücke und schrieb u. a. 'Der Einfluß der Lessingschen Dramaturgie auf die Einführung Shakespeares in Deutschland'. Vgl. Czeike II, 347. - Richard Schultz (1863-1928) ging 1887 an das Deutsche Theater in Berlin und 1888 ans Kaiserliche Deutsche Hoftheater in Sankt Petersburg.

An einen Freund: "Seit Anfang August hab' ich in Ihrer Nachbarschaft - in Unterach - gehaust, ohne eine Ahnung zu haben, daß ich Sie so nahe hatte, wo Sie so leicht erreichbar für mich gewesen wären! Als ich es endlich erfuhr - erfuhr von meinem Sohn, demselben Patron, dessenthalben ich Ihnen jetzt schreibe - war es zu spät. Man sagte mir, daß Sie seit Sonntag vor 8 Tagen abgereist seien! Sie glauben mir gewiß, wenn ich Ihnen sage, daß ich es schmerzlich bedaure, des Vergnügens verlustig gegangen zu sein, einen alten Bekannten und Freund begrüßen zu können und ich bin eitel genug zu glauben, daß auch Sie nicht ungern mit mir wieder einmal geplaudert hätten. Was mich aber veranlasst heute an Sie zu schreiben, ist mein väterliches Interesse. Sie sind, wie ich höre, bei dem neu erstehenden Wiener Volkstheater betheiligt und haben eine einflussreiche und wichtige Stellung bei dem Unternehmen. Nun wollt' ich Sie bitten, Ihr Fürwort bei dem Director Herrn v. Bukoviks für meinen Sohn Heinrich einzulegen, den Sie ja schon als Buben gekannt haben. Ich kann Ihnen - ohne ob väterlicher Schönfärberei erröthen zu müssen - die Versicherung geben, daß er ein tüchtiger Schauspieler geworden ist.
