Second edition, long tall 8vo (200 x 75 mm), xxv, [1], 170, [2], iv, 46, 46a-h, 47-74pp., 3 engravings including 2 illustrs of complete and broken glass, lightly washed in pale green, cont. sheep, neatly rebacked, plain spine with five raised bands ruled in gilt. First published in 1758, this rare work consists of numerous tables providing pricing and manufacturing techniques on a wide range of goods. In the first part, there is extensive information on the production of plate glass and mirrors, including instructions on grinding and polishing glass, repurposing mirrors, convex and concave mirrors, coloured glass, and other similar pursuits. Following these instructions are tables of prices and various measurements. The second part contains explanations of measurement calculations on a variety of goods and hardware. These explanations are accompanied by tables of prices and measurements. This book provides deep insight into the economic and manufacturing concerns of numerous trades during the mid-18th century, and the heavy taxes and excise duties on plate glass reflect how the price limited the use of plate glass. A series of views detailing all of the stages involved in the production of kid gloves at the Trefousse works, Chaumont, including preparing the skins, cutting, sewing, dyeing, and finishing. Tr?fousse was one of the leading manufacturers, employed over 5000 people and cut out 1,750,000 pairs of gloves annually.

Contemporary full red cloth with giltstamped title to cover and spine. First and only edition. Monumental annotated edition of the famous Akbar manuscript of the Hamzanama epos, based on the 60 folia located in Vienna. The Hamzanama narrates the fantastic adventures of Amir Hamza (Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib), an uncle of Muhammad, who with his band of heroes fought against the enemies of Islam. The stories, from a long-established oral tradition, were written down in Persian in multiple volumes presumably in the era of Mahmud of Ghazni. In the West the work is best known for the enormous illustrated manuscript commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Akbar around 1562. The size of the commission was completely unprecedented, and stretched even the huge imperial workshop. According to contemporary accounts, about 30 main artists were used, and over a hundred men worked on the various aspects of the book in all. One side of most folios has a painting, about 69 x 54 cm in size, carried out in a fusion of Persian and Mughal styles, while the other side is usually written on in Persian in Nasta'liq script. At some fairly early point, the Akbar manuscript became dispersed, and only a little over a hundred of the paintings survive. The largest group of 60 folia is stored at the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna (Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst - MAK), with the rest spread over many collections. The Victoria and Albert Museum possesses 27 images, bought in Kashmir, and the British Museum in London has one. - The present edition includes a description of the manuscript fragments held at the MAK, the Victoria and Albert Museum and other collections, as well as a German translation of the 60 leaves of the MAK by the art historian Glück (1889-1930), and a detailed account of the illustrations. The high-quality collotype illustrations were produced by the studio Max Jaffe in Vienna, conveying an impressive idea of the original illuminations. - Extremities slightly worn. An Baronin Königswarter, wohl die Schauspielerin Margarethe Königswarter-Formes: "Mir ist es, als wäre es gestern gewesen, und doch ist es ein halbes Jahrhundert her, seit Sie in 'Furcht vor der Freude' und der 'Schachpartie' die ganz besondere Anmut Ihrer Kunst die rasch erworbene Gemeinde Ihrer Freunde und Schätzer zum letzten Male genießen ließen [...]". - Heinrich Glücksmann war seit 1882 Redakteur verschiedener Budapester und Wiener Zeitungen (u. a. des "Neuen Pester Journals" und der "Wiener Allgemeine Zeitung") und fungierte 1900/01 als Chefredakteur des "Wiener Tagblatts" und 1903 als Chefredakteur der "Neuen Zeitung". 1910 wurde er Dramaturg des Deutschen Volkstheaters in Wien, später Professor an der Wiener Schauspielschule. Daneben trat er mit zahlreichen Vorträgen über Literatur und Kunst hervor, veröffentlichte freimaurerische Schriften und schrieb Dramen (u. a. "Der blanke Hans", 1908), Lustspiele und Gedichte (u. a. "Fährten und Narben", 1913). Von 1896 bis 1919 gab er die freimaurerische Zeitschrift "Der Zirkel" heraus und von 1919 bis 23 die "Wiener Freimaurer-Zeitung". - Auf Briefpapier mit gedr.
