Ausführlicher Brief an die Schriftstellerin Grete Meisel-Heß, über deren Werk "Die Bedeutung der Monogamie" (Verlag Eugen Diederichs, Jena 1917) und die Schauspielerin Gemma Boic, die sich 1914 das Leben genommen hatte: "Eben habe ich die letzte Zeile Ihres Buches: Die Bed. d. Monog. gelesen und fühle das Bedürfnis Ihnen zu sagen, dass es wirklich in jeder Weise ausgezeichnet ist. Aber nicht dies allein ist der Grund meines Briefes, der, was die Zustimmung Ihrer Ansichten anbelangt, sicher viele Brüder hat, sondern eine kleine Anmerkung die Sie über Gemma Boic machten. Ich kannte dieses unglückliche Mädchen, wir waren Schülerinnen einer sehr verehrten Mozartspielerin in Wien und Frl. Boic suchte mich auf Grund dieser Bekanntschaft in Berlin auf, um sich mit mir über ihre Pläne auszusprechen. Sie war damals schon irgendwo engagiert gewesen und klagte mir, dass sie schwer weiterkomme. Ich hörte mit grosser Teilnahme zu, denn mich interessierte das temperamentvolle Geschöpf, dann schwankte ich lange ob ich mit meinem Rat herausrücken sollte. Endlich überwand ich meine Schüchternheit, die mich bei solchen Anlässen leider immer überfällt und ich riet ihr sich mit allem Eifer auf das Erlernen - der deutschen Sprache - zu werfen […] Die Folge war, dass Frl. Boic sich aufs Tiefste gekränkt von mir zurückzog und nie mehr etwas von mir wissen wollte […] Leider, leider, wollen gerade die Talentiertesten nichts davon hören, dass man arbeiten, arbeiten und wieder arbeiten muss. Ja, sie halten es sogar für ein Zeichen von Untalentiertheit, wenn man arbeitet. Ihnen, verehrte Frau, brauche ich das Törichte dieser Gedanken, nicht auseinanderzusetzen […] Als die Brochüre über sie erschien, wurde sie mir von einem Herrn mit höhnischen Worten zugeschickt, der mich ungefähr beschuldigte, Frl. Boic ins Unglück getrieben zu haben. Hat sie Derartiges geäussert so war sie geistig anormal, denn ich hatte sie gänzlich aus den Augen verloren und nie habe ich in meinem ganzen Leben Talente unterdrückt […]". - Durieux debütierte 1901 in Olmütz und war 1903-11 eine der ersten Schauspielerinnen Max Reinhardts in Berlin. Danach spielte sie am Lessingtheater und am Berliner Kgl. Schauspielhaus. In zweiter Ehe bis 1926 mit Paul Cassirer verheiratet, ging sie nach dem Machtwechsel 1933 auf Auslandstournee, ließ sich später mit ihrem dritten Mann in Agram nieder und spielte noch kurz vor dem "Anschluß" in Wien und Prag. Nach der Deportation ihres Mannes durch die Gestapo für die jugoslawischen Partisanen tätig, lebte sie von der Herstellung von Puppen für das kroatische Marionettendrama. Durieux kehrte 1952 nach Deutschland zurück, wurde Mitglied des Bremer Theaters und spielte an den großen Berliner Bühnen. Nach ihrer ersten Filmrolle 1953 war sie seit 1957 auch für Rundfunk und Fernsehen tätig und erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen in Ost- und Westdeutschland, darunter 1967 den Professorentitel. - Gefaltet und etwas knittrig.
