4to. Altogether 5pp. Together with an autograph letter by Fernandel's wife Henriette Manse. Correspondence with the French film director Maurice Cammage concerning various film projects. In the letter from 6 April 1932 Fernandel expresses his astonishment that there was no further news about "The Magical Chair" from Cammage, and announces his engagement for Maurice Tourneur's "Les Gaîtés de l'escadron", which premiered in September 1932: "Je suis très étonné de ne plus avoir de vos nouvelles au sujet du 'Fauteuil Magique' et je voudrais bien savoir ce que vous avez décidé, [...]. Je serais en Allemagne jusqu'au 20 courant puis j'irai directement à Paris ou je suis attendu chez Pathé Natar avec qui je viens de signer ces jours-ci pour tourner 'Les Gaîtés de l'escadron' avec Raimu [...]". - A few days later, on 11 April, it is apparent that the project was abandoned, and Fernandel underlines that he primarily does feature films now but he would make an exception for Cammage if there is a good script, offering to shoot simultaneously with his project with Tourneur: "Veuillez m'adresser à la lecture le résumé de celui que vous compteriez tourner sous peu, quan j'en aurai pris connaissance je vous dirais si je peux le tourner, actuellement je ne fais presque plus de films de première partie mais pour vous être agréable je veux bien si ce scenario est vraiment dans ma nature travailler à nouveau avec vous [...]." - On 15 April Fernandel accepts to shoot "Le Gros Lot" with Cammage and even proposes a score for the movie that he already has in his drawer: "Je vous accuse reception de votre dernière lettre contenant le résumé du scénario 'Le Gros Lot' Je l'ai lu avec attention et je crois en effet que l'on pourra en tirer un bon film. J'accepte donc de le tourner à ma rentrée en France qui ne tardera pas [...]". - On 3 September 1932, writing from Vichy, Fernandel announces that he has signed an exclusive three-year contract with Pathé and thus cannot pursue any projects with Cammage for the moment. If his agent made an exception it would be more expensive than before: "[...] je ne sais pas si je pourrai vous tourner quelque chose à la rentrée, n'ayant plus rien reçu de votre part, j'ai présumé que vous aviez abandonné l'idée de tourner 'Le Cavalier Lafleur' et autre chose et j'ai signé 3 ans en exclusivité avec Pathé Natar à compter du 23 courant. Si vous m'aviez adressé seulement un petit mot j'aurais pu pû me reserver une date pour vous tourner un court métrage. Malgré ça je vais essayer de pouvoir vous être agréable en avisant mon imprésario M. Portelly [...] qui consentira peut-être à me preter à vous sur ma demande, mais je crains que pour les conditions il vous fasse plus cher [...]". - Fernandel had played the main role in Cammage's first short film "Vive la classe" in 1932, and they realized five more short films that same year. Despite Fernandel's contract with Pathé, he and Cammage continued to collaborate as early as 1933, finally shooting "Le Gros Lot" that was mentioned in the 3rd letter. Until 1943 Fernandel appeared in 15 short and feature films by Maurice Cammage. - On 23 April 1932 Fernandel's wife Henriette wrote to inform Cammage that they had to prolong their stay in Berlin because her husband had fallen sick. - The three letters from Berlin on stationery of the "Pension Imperial" and the letter from Vichy on stationery with letterhead "le comique fernandel". - With minor fold tears and some smudging.
