‎Jules Gabriel Janin (1804 - 1874) a French writer and critic, published a series of reviews of the newly announced daguerreian process in L’ARTISTE p116 Daguère. Apparently, having attended Arago’s official announcement of the process on 19 August, Janin and others were left confused at the complexity of the daguerreian process. Having read Janin’s critique in the August 25 issue of L’ARTISTE, Daguerre called upon him to witness a demonstration of the process at his studio; at this point, only a very few had had such an opportunity. Daguerre started with polishing the plate and moved through all the steps to prepare for the exposure. The camera had been readied and focused on a view out of the window. After a six minute exposure, the plate was “developed” under the mercury vapors, fixed and washed. Upon viewing the finished plate, Janin commented, “The view looks as if it had been drawn by the hand of the fairy queen Mab.” Janin expressed his regret that Daguerre had not demonstrated his procedureon 19 August, for it would have shown that it was not too complicated, as Arago had made it appear. ‎Nach einem Besuch der Kunstgewerbeschule in München, ging der als Tiermaler bekannte Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel 1897 für fast ein Jahr nach Neapel. 1899 zog er nach Wien und absolvierte eine Ausbildung an der örtlichen Akademie bei Christian Griepenkerl (1839-1912). Zwischenzeitlich erfolgte eine Ungarnreise. Ab 1902 setzte er seine Studien bei Alfred Roller (1864-1935) an der Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule fort. 1906 besuchte er die Münchner Kunstakademie und war Schüler von Carl von Marr (1858-1936), ab 1907 studierte er an der Wiener Kunstakademie und erlernte die Radiertechnik bei William Unger (1837-1932). In Wien wurde er Mitarbeiter der Wiener Werkstätte und entwarf Gläser, Vasen, Stoffe, Tapeten, Teppiche etc. Mit Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), mit dem er seit der frühen Wiener Zeit freundschaftlich verbunden war und der starken Vorbildcharakter auf ihn hatte, war er an der Ausschmückung des Palais Stoclet in Brüssel beteiligt. Seine 1909 präsentierten Farbholzschnitte ? die ersten zeigte er 1908 ? mit Darstellungen von Tieren aus dem Tiergarten Schönbrunn, verschafften ihm internationale Anerkennung. 1911 wurde er Professor an der Kunstgewerbeschule in Frankfurt am Main. Allerdings kehrte er bereits ein Jahr später nach Wien zurück. Von dort aus unternahm er in den 20er Jahren zahlreiche Reisen, die ihn u.a. nach Deutschland, Holland, Italien und Jugoslawien führten. In den 30er Jahren emigrierte er nach Opatija/Kroatien ? seine Wohnung wurde zwischenzeitlich von der Gestapo geräumt ?, von wo er erst 1952 nach Wien zurückkehrte. Neben Tierdarstellungen als zentrales Thema schuf Jungnickel vorwiegend Bildnisse und Akte, auch Landschaften.‎

Herzog zur Erinnerung […]". - Der aus Bielefeld stammende Schauspieler genoss nach Erfolgen auf Laienbühnen und Wanderjahren an zahlreichen kleineren und größeren Bühnen Deutschlands, Österreichs und der Schweiz seit 1877 den Ruf als vorzüglichster Interpret von Stücken Fritz Reuters, der "Bräsig" aus Reuters Erfolgsroman "Ut mine Stromtid" etwa wurde über zweitausend Mal gegeben. Als ihm ein angestrebter Vertrag auf Lebenszeit in Stuttgart wiederholt verweigert wurde, löste Junkermann seinen Vertrag und begab sich, zeitweilig mit eigenem Ensemble, auf Gastspielreisen, die ihn durch halb Europa sowie wiederholt auch in die Vereinigten Staaten führten.‎
