VESTOFF Veronine
THE ADAGIO or The Various Manipulations of Handling the Dancer in Slow Movements
NP: No publisher stated ND c. 1927. 1st edition. Hardcover. black-&-white illustrations. pp. 32 ills.Slim 8voVeronine Vestoff was a Russian-American dancer who claimed to have danced with Pavlova and who in 1924 appeared in a short film which used the DeForest Phonofilm sound-on-film process. He partnered with ballerina Sonia Serova and the Sonia Serova Dancers in a piece set to Greig's song 'To Spring'. In the 1920s and 1930s Vestoff ran a ballet school in New York City and offered a correspondence course in dance the advertising for which described him as 'The World's Greatest Ballet Master'. This offering is most probably one of the teaching aids used in that course. It is divided as follows: '1. 12 graded lessons with numerous diagrams. 2. 6 combinations to music. 3. A complete adagio to music.' It is a relatively scarce item WorldCat noting only six institutional holdings. There is a brief ink gift inscription to the inside of the front board. The front hinge is starting to separate but the binding is tight. The contents are unmarked. The boards are soiled and worn at the edges. Still a good copy. It comes with a separate soft cover booklet which contains the music referred to in the lessons. It is in very good condition.

[No publisher stated] hardcover
