International Studio for Collectors and Connoisseurs Volume 86 Comprising January February March and April 1927
4 months of the magazine International Studio bound in a 390-page book.<br />This ex-Peddie Institute library book is a snapshot out of the 1920s world of collecting comes in bluish-green boards with gold lettering on the spine. The exterior of the book has lots of staining on the front and rear covers worn areas at the top and bottom of the spine and lightly worn areas along the top and bottom edges. The interior book has s library label inside the front cover a dedication label on the first inside page library stamps on the title page and water staining on the title page and other pages and two worn areas and library stamps on the cover of the first issue of the magazine. Outside of those distractions there are no visible extraneous markings throughout the book and thus all printing illustrations and photos are in a well-preserved readable and enjoyable condition. I have attached pictures of the front covers of the four magazines bound into this volume.<br /><br />This volume will be carefully wrapped up and padded then boxed and shipped right away to you from here in New Jersey and will come to you with our honest gratitude for your interest and for your order. Date stamps agency information and paper blurbs attached to two photos. Minor wear with one showing wrinkling at top and bottom blank white margins. Overall near fine.</em></p><p>These portraits including one of Hazel Scott at the piano capture her effervescent sassy and charismatic personality which made her a top favorite for radio film and -- what one of the image's attached paper blurb indicates -- star of Café Society Uptown. She performed as the resident pianist/vocalist for five years by 1945 and earned a place at the top of show biz.</p><p>Originally from Trinidad and Tobago Scott moved to the US and was a child prodigy. Rubbing and wear to board edges; internally clean and sound - a Very Good copy with all plates present. An attractive Meiji Era souvenir album with subtly hand-tinted collotype plates depicting a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony. One of several editions produced between 1906 and 1920; per the excellent bibliography of Tamamura's souvenir albums at ours would appear to be the Third Edition of 1910. Dhrol Kathiawar India: 1937. Oblong folio album 530 x 420 mm depicting the installation festivities for the Thakore of Dhrol held on August 30 1937. Contemporary padded red morocco stamped and titled "Installation Festivities Dhrol Kathiawar" in gilt. Binding heavily rubbed with partial erasure of gilt lettering from upper cover contents somewhat loose boards heavily chipping and separating.Photographs depict all aspects of the society and community: Family notables servants military vernacular and royal architecture vehicles animals residents.Installation Festivities Kathiawar. Dhrol.Photograph album containing 128 black and white photos mounted on board leaves most 220 x 150 mm some 300 x 240 mm.A presentation album with the name of the recipient erased from the cover in celebration of the installation of H.H Thakore Saheb Shri Jorawarsinhji Dipsinhji Jadeja of Dhrol in August 1937. Shri Jorawarsinhji Dipsinhji Jadeja held the title of Thakore of Dhrol State—a British protectorate—for just two years until his death in 1939. His successor would be the last to hold the title which became extinct with the Union of India in February 1948.Before the arrival of Jadejas in Saurashtra the town of Dhrol was known as Dhamalpur. Dhamalpur was ruled by Chavda King founded & named after Dhamal Chavda who then reigned at Dhamalpur Dhrol obstructed the Jam Hardholji in their conquests and in order to remove this obstruction Jam Hardholji marched against Dhamal Chavda. Dhamal Chavda's army was made of different warrior clans such as Chavda Rathod Chauhan Jadav Jhala Gohil Varsur Makwana Dabhi Khimsurya and Solanki. These clans were not as united as Jadejas. Consequently they were defeated and King Dhamal Chavda was killed by Jadejas in 1539.Dhrol State became a British protectorate in 1807. During the British rule of India Dhrol State was a princely state of India ruled by the Jadeja dynasty having an area of 732 sqkm and 71 villages under its rule. It was accorded 9-gun salute status and a privy purse of 110000/-.The last ruler HH Thakore Saheb Shri Chandrasinhji Dipsinhji Jadeja acceded to the Union of India on 15 February 1948.
