‎Figure marquante des arts décoratifs de l'entre-deux guerres, René Buthaud (1886-1986) s'intéresse à la céramique, mais aussi à la peinture et à la gravure ,dès la fin de ses études à l'École des Beaux-Arts de Paris et à l'École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, avant d'être mobilisé. Tantôt figuratifs et peuplés de figures historicisantes ou d'animaux, tantôt géométriques ou abstraits, ses vases et sculptures rencontrent un grand succès dès le salon d'Automne et le Salon des artistes décorateurs de 1920, aux côtés de ses amis Jean Dunand et Alfred Janniot. Excellent technicien, il devient directeur technique de Primavera et de la Faïencerie d'art de Sainte-Radegonde et est notamment connu et apprécié du public pour sa grande maîtrise du craquelé qu'il fait redécouvrir en France. Il est en outre l'auteur d'une trentaine de remarquables fixés sous verre qui témoignent de sa dextérité avec d'autres matériaux. Diffusé par la galerie Rouart et participant à la plupart des Salons comme aux grandes expositions (Exposition internationale des Arts décoratifs de 1925, Exposition coloniale internationale de 1931 et Exposition des arts et techniques de 1937), il connaît également un vrai succès outre-Atlantique, grâce au Prix Florence Blumenthal dont il a été lauréat en 1921 ou à ses vases signés Doris.‎

‎Tim Van Laere Gallery is pleased to present its second solo exhibition by Tal R: The Forest in My Eyebrow. This exhibition shows a new series of works that resulted from a confrontation between the artist and an opening in the forest, created by trees that had been cut down. The opening, which curiously seemed to form the shape of an eye, compelled the artist to make a series of drawings, which he later reworked in his studio into colored drawings on paper, woodcuts, and large-scale paintings. In addition to these works, Tal also presents a new bronze sculpture in the outdoor patio of the gallery. ?There is a strange coincidence in the Danish language that the word forest ?skovbryn? and eyebrow ?øjenbryn? are very similar to each other,? Tal explains, referring to the title of the exhibition. ?So when I saw this eye-shaped space of cut-down trees in the forest, I was intrigued. I took a chair and sat there daily to draw. While I was drawing, I asked myself: What exactly am I looking for? What is it that I am drawing? What am I doing here? When you have been doing this for years, it is no longer about copying the forest. It is no longer about registration. You are doing something else. Something you might not be aware of yourself. So when I talk about an eyebrow and the edge of the forest, it is actually me wondering: How long do I really see the forest before me, and after which amount of time do I start to invent the forest? I think that is a question many artists can relate to. When you draw something outside from yourself, for how long do you see it? What do you actually see? And when do you start to invent your version of it? When do you start to use the world as a mirror for something else you experience in life??‎

"An architect and engineer, David Georges Emmerich took the lead in France in the field of research on structural morphology, developed elsewhere by Robert Le Ricolais, Konrad Wachsmann and Buckminster Fuller. In the early 1950s he began exploring the laws underlying the development of architectural form through morphogenesis. He considered forms as self-organizing 'geometric beings in space' created according to their own laws, very much like structures in nature. Keenly aware of the issues and challenges of self-construction, growth and mobility, Emmerich aimed to blend architecture and engineering in a way that would allow for the creation of dwellings that were convertible, multi-purpose and organically expandable, thanks to possible combinations of standardized elements. His principles of self-construction were especially intended for emergency housing projects, which he went on to actually build with his students, notably in Morocco (1970). Emmerich?s structural research led to the development of radically new architectonic conformations which were light, and designed to totally disappear. These structures had a major impact on the inflatable architecture of the 1960s and 1970s.
