Spesso l'ingegnere, dopo anni di attività passati a occuparsi nel lavoro quotidiano di problematiche diverse (legali, economiche, ecc.), perde dimestichezza con gli aspetti teorici propri della sua formazione accademica. Ove si presenti, però, un nuovo problema, o un nuovo metodo di calcolo da comprendere e poi utilizzare, risulta per lui necessario riconsolidare, in modo propedeutico, le proprie basi teoriche. Cosa, in vero, piuttosto difficoltosa e scoraggiante, quando sia costretto a consultare corposi testi didattici nel poco tempo a disposizione. Il presente libro espone la teoria che sta alla base della preparazione dell'ingegnere di classica formazione, e in particolare dell'ingegnere civile. I singoli argomenti sono trattati in poche pagine, sebbene in modo rigoroso, senza rimandi esterni, in quanto la teoria è costruita secondo una catena logica essenziale e continua.
