Opens to 18.5" x 24" This booklet presents the 1947 Kaiser Special showing interior and exterior along with a 9" x 12" full color view of the Willow Run factory. Also an introductory announcement by Henry J. Kaiser and dated July 1946. This is the introductory brochure that announces the Kaiser Special styled by Howard Darrin the famous designer of custom bodies to the marketplace in 1947. "The Kaiser-Frazer Corporation was the result of a partnership between automobile executive Joseph W. Frazer and industrialist Henry J. Kaiser. In 1947 the company acquired the automotive assets of Graham-Paige of which Frazer had become president during WWII. Kaiser-Frazer was the only new US automaker to achieve success after World War II if only for a few years. The company was founded on July 25 1945 and in 1946 K-F displayed prototypes of their two new cars at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The Kaiser was of an advanced front wheel drive design while the Frazer was an upscale conventional rear wheel drive car. The production costs and the limited time available prevented the front wheel drive design from entering production so the new 1947 Kaiser and Frazer shared bodies and powertrains. Being some of the first newly designed cars on the market while the "Big Three" were still marketing their pre-war designs the Kaisers and Frazers made an exciting entrance. Kaiser and Frazer continued to share bodies and engines through 1950 with different exterior and interior trim. Henry Kaiser had no automotive marketing experience; Joseph Frazer did having been president of the Graham-Paige Corporation prior to WWII. Kaiser believed in pressing forward in the face of adversity while Frazer was more pragmatic. As the market for Kaiser-Frazer products slowed in 1949 with the introduction of new designs from the Big Three Kaiser pushed for more production creating an oversupply of cars that took until mid-1950 to sell. Kaiser and Frazer disagreed until Frazer left the company in 1951 and the Frazer nameplate was dropped after a 10000 unit production run. In 1952 the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation was renamed Kaiser Motors Corporation and continued building passenger cars through 1955. In 1953 Kaiser bought the ailing Willys-Overland company for US $63381175 and merged the Kaiser and Willys operations under the name Kaiser-Willys Corporation. The decision was then made to exit the passenger car market which was accomplished at the end of the 1955 model year. By 1956 Willys Motors built only utility vehicles many for export and was turning a healthy profit. First edition of this very scarce post-World War II salesman sample catalogue for the Weldwood Plywood assembled from domestic and imported hardwoods for interiors and furniture which would heavily influence Mid-Century Modern designs. Plywood had first become a successful and durable product after the development of waterproof adhesive by Dr. Nevin in 1934 and within a few years the United States Plywood Corporation was establishing plywood as a strong durable and versatile architectural material. This is a salesman's sample catalogue filled with plywood sample leaves for architects designers and contractors. 9" x 9 1/2" x 1 1/2" plywood front and rear covers with a cloth covered spine titles stamped in black on the front cover and spine with a leather clasp for closure and to hold the catalogue intact. Before the World War II plywood was primarily produced from Pacific Northwest Douglas Fir but scientists in several companies had developed methods of using other softwoods and hardwoods which set off the plywood boom following World War II. These samples of Weldwood Plywood include veneers from such wood varieties as Avodire Red Gum Brazilian and East Indian Rosewood American Sycamore Bubinga Zebrawood Curly Maple and many others which were employed in a wide range of interior architectural designs furnishings and more by Mid-Century designers. The United States Plywood Corp. was founded in 1937 in a consolidation of three smaller plywood companies and by 1967 they merged with Champion Papers Inc. and eventually changed their name to Champion International later sold to UPM in 2000. These included the Corvette first year with the special aluminum wheels Impala Caprice Classic Bel Air Monte Carlo Malibu Nova Corvette and the very popular Camaro LT Coupe and Sport Coupe. The Camaros of that year were part of the second generation Super Hugger models first introduced in 1970. The 1975 LT came with new seat trim patterns as seen in this catalogue and birds-eye maple replaced the Meridian grained walnut on the instrument panel along with power locks and a Rally Sport and the larger 350 cubic-inch V8 was available with a 4-Barrel Carb and 165 horsepower. The third generation Corvette C3 was patterned after the Mako Shark II concept car with enhanced color choices specifically for the Corvette enthusiast buyers. The Oakland Motor Car Co. was founded in 1907 by Edward Murphy and purchased by GM with William Durant in 1909 and would grow to be the division which was marketed in the price range above Chevrolet but below Oldsmobile. After the introduction of the Pontiac brand by the company in the 1920s the Oakland marque began losing sales ground and the company began offering electric horns ignition theft locks automatic windshield cleaners spare rim & tires shock absorbers stop lights rear view mirrors and other equipment which has since become standard. Numerous color illustrations and plates and a brief listing of specifications. First edition of this exceedingly scarce dealer’s promotional catalogue detailing the introduction of the Hupmobile 6 whose increased sales allowed Robert & Louis Hupp to make a more upscale automobile after purchasing Chandler Motor Car in 1928. This beautiful catalogue with Art Deco inspired illustrations includes the 2-passenger Cabriolet 5-passenger Sedan 2-passenger Sportster 4-passenger coupe and the 7-passenger Phaeton. Hupmobile was an automobile built from 1909 through 1939 by the Hupp Motor Car Company. The prototype was developed in 1908 and had its first successful run on November 8 with investors aboard for champagne at the Tuller Hotel a few blocks away. The company was incorporated in November of that year. The first Hupmobile model the "Hupp 20" was introduced at the 1909 Detroit automobile show. It was an instant success. Henry Ford paid the Hupp 20 the ultimate compliment. "I recall looking at Bobby Hupp's roadster at the first show where it was exhibited and wondering whether we could ever build as good a small car for as little money." A small scrape to the top right corner of the front cover that affects the letters "L" and "E" in the word "Hupmobile" covers lightly soiled and a faint vertical crease in the center from at one time having been folded the interior is clean and bright for an overall very good copy. First edition of this beautifully illustrated dealer catalogue promoting the groundbreaking Airflow style Chrysler models for 1934 including 4-door sedan 2-door Touring Sedan and designed by Carl Breer. 21" x 27 1/4" color one sheet dealer poster with color promotional details on each side. Folds down to 5 3/4" x 10 1/2" size.The Airflow models also featured the innovative modern streamline styling with a waterfall grille semi-flush headlights the rear wheels encased in fender skirts and a Vee raked windshield but it was just too radical a departure for the consumers at the time. To further support their design Chrysler promoted a new era of transportation identifying the car with streamlined passenger trains and ultramodern transportation and architecture designs like the Graf Zeppelin and the Chrysler Building in New York City. Commercial Photographers 1912-1965. 96 silver gelatin photographs preserved in archival Mylar sleeves90 separate photos plus 6 duplicates most printed on glossy photo stock nearly all 8 x 10 in. some with pencil or ink annotations in lower fore-edge of the image or on verso the majority of the White Co. photos w/ commercial photographer's stamp and/or White Co. stamp on verso Autocar factory photos w/ typed caption in lower blank margin some w/ company stamps or annotations in lower margin. Recent cloth post-binder gilt lettering stamped on front cover & spine a few photos w/ holes from having been previously mounted in company sales binders nearly all the images having strong sharp contrast. Very good. This remarkable photo album for the White Motor Co. in Cleveland OH provides an excellent photographic resource of many different White Company Trucks and Tractors produced from before World War I until the mid-20th century. These images incorporate the various Company logos and advertising promotional material for the firms which had purchased them and used them for hauling. The White company originally built White Steamers and White Motorcars but by 1911 they had largely moved to producing heavy trucks tractors and commercial vehicles. These images include a 1913 White 5 ton hauler in the City of Binghamton NY pulling ashes; a 1934 White Ohio Bell Telephone Truck showing the installation of telephone polls; a 1933 White lumber hauler; a 1935 White Factory Sleeper; a 1950 White cab-over maintenance truck; a 1940s passenger bus for Panagra Airlines in Lima Peru along with dump trucks cement mixers road-building trucks logging trucks and many others. Of special interest are the numerous factory images of White Company half-tracks including an M-16 AA Half-Trac in 1942 and an armored vehicle truck chassis produced for the U.S. Army during World War II. The White Motor Company also owned the truck manufacturing names of Sterling Autocar Diamond T Indiana Trucks and REO which continued up through the 1970s. This archive also includes many images of Sterling Trucks pulling semi-trailers covered freight trailers inside the factory dump trucks service tractors a heavy equipment hauler parked in front of the White Truck Factory with clock sign in background. The Autocar factory photos include a 1952 Autocar Diesel owned by Riverside Cement Co. in Los Angeles CA; the 1953 Autocar Driver Cab owned by Wagman Transfer in Boston MA; and many others. REO trucks are represented in this group by a 1912 Reo H Truck fitted with awning and a 1950s Reo Gold Comet. The Indiana Truck Company include different styles of stave trucks from the 1930s. The White Company buses became especially well known in the 1930s when their Model 706 buses carried passengers throughout the major National Parks such as Yellowstone Yosemite and Glacier in the west and were called Red Jammers.
