(Meubles G. Dussau); Bates, Ted; Abegg, Andre
HOME CONTEMPORAIN
Paris: Segarep-Paris 1970. First printing. Near fine. Gorgeous French home furnishings catalogue from the high 1970s advertising cantilevered aluminum chairs low-slung bulging lounge chairs and white shag rugs in the most impractical places. When you come home this catalogue's text proposes you should find yourself in "another universe": a deathly calm world of biomorphic shapes in greens oranges browns; lamps like mushrooms chairs like eggs; smoked-glass tables as low to the ground as possible; floor-to-ceiling storage systems ingenious beds whose drawers hide away any traces of human occupation or which fold up entirely into featureless walls. A few daring futuristic tableaux in pinks and purples look boldly ahead to 1980; others confine their color schemes to silver and white aluminum and chrome shiny mirrors reflecting nothing into nothing; yet they all glow with the same low-lit windowless invitation of rooms marked by the artfully distributed signs and signifiers of humanity but unblemished and unmarked by human lives in the sunless airless endless caverns of the interior. Sleep forever beneath this yellow velvet coverlet sink deep into the waving climbing tendrils of the wild soft white carpet. Let the sofas devour you. They open their soft arms out in your image they crouch down low to receive you. How hungry they are! Created specially "pour vous Madame et pour vous Monsieur." 8.25'' x 10.5''. Original black-and-white glossy wrappers. Illustrated with color photographs by André Abegg and Studio Emess throughout. 49 pages. Minor edgewear. Bright and fresh. Segarep-Paris unknown
