This official NASA black and white photograph of Scott Carpenter in civilian clothes measures 8" x 10" and is Signed "Best Wishes. M. Scott Carpenter." Scott Carpenter was one of America's original seven Project Mercury astronauts. He was the fourth American in space orbiting the Earth three times on May 24 1962 aboard the Project Mercury capsule Aurora 7 for a total of four hours and 55 minutes. In this photograph he is wearing his Project Mercury lapel pin. Carpenter later became an oceanologist exploring the depths of the Pacific Ocean.
