‎Band 1 in der "Neuen Ausgabe", die aber nur eine Titelauflage der Ausgabe Karlsruhe, C. Macklot, 1846 darstellt, während Band 2 in erster Ausgabe vorliegt. J. Bensheimer in Mannheim hatte Teile u.a. des Karlsruher Verlages C.Macklot übernommen, aber offenbar nur einen Teil der Restauflage des Mone'schen Werkes mit eigenem Titelblatt versehen, denn bei Russell werden die Bände im Artikel "Bensheimer" (Russell VIII, 245) noch unter Macklot mit dem Erscheinungsdatum 1846 angezeigt.- Diese Edition war "von großer Bedeutung für die Geschichte des Schauspiels" (ADB). Die Literaturwissenschaft hatte bis dahin die "altteutschen Schauspiele nur aphoristisch behandelt". Mone ordnet die Dramentexte chronologisch, untersucht jedes einzelne Drama, dessen dramatischen Charakter, dessen Sprache, dessen Zusammenhang z.B. mit dem Gottesdienst und der Mystik, mit dem französischen Schauspiel, mit den Chronikschreibern, mit verwandten Texten etc. Mone beschränkt sich auf Schauspiele des Mittelalters, fügt seiner Edition aber als Fundgrube für andere Herausgeber ein "Verzeichniß handschriftlicher Schauspiele" des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts an.- Goed. I,31 u. I,199.‎
