1885. Iran Art Original Persian Qajar Lovers gouache painting on paper with gold illuminated border design. The image portrays a young Qajar prince in an elaborate blue and gold coat with an orange and gold karakul cap embracing his lover. The prince holds a glass in one hand while embracing his lover with the other. She with a tiara on her head pearls on her neck and a see-through blouse is wearing a Qajar coat with typical Persian paisley design. The lovers are seated in an embrace at a small table with crystal decanters next to them. This work composition is somewhat similar to the depiction of lovers embrace attributed to Mohammad Sadiq 1770-80 Layla Diba Royal Persian Paintings NY 1998 number 27 pg 156-7. The headgear of the prince confirms this to be from the Qajar epoch rather than the Zand period. Wide margins with floral and animal illumination including deer and monkeys. The illumination work is of a very high and intricate quality. Image size 18.5" x 11." Some browning to the margins minor expert repair not affecting image on verso in margin to fortify them. Overall in very good condition. An exquisite image with more sensibility than most other Qajar paintings. unknown

Chaque portrait est accompagné d'une notice biographique d'environ 12 pages, rédigée par différents auteurs. Publication de luxe. Reliures en plein maroquin rouge d'époque signées Amand. Dos à nerfs finement et richement orné de roses et d'entrelacs. Titres et tomaisons dorés. Plats décorés à la Du Seuil avec encadrement central et triple filet d'encadrement, fers dans les écoinçons. Large frise intérieure. Tranches dorées. Légers frottements sur certains nerfs, en coiffes. Mors supérieur du tome I fendillé en tête et queue. Quelques traces de frottements sur le plat supérieur du tome II. Exemplaire très frais, avec quelques rares piqûres et feuillets un peu plus jaunes. Splendide reliure parfaitement établie en maroquin. Celui que l'on surnomma "le Raphaël de la peinture sur émail" a réalisé au XVIIe une série de portraits des grands personnage du temps de Louis XIV (Richelieu, Mme de Montbazon, Turenne, La Rochefoucauld, Ninon de l'Enclos, Colbert, Mme de Sevigne, M le Comte de Grignan, Mme Scarron, la Duchesse de Portsmouth), avec une perfection incomparable. Top corners of the spine head gently rubbed and lightly abraded; else a generally unbumped binding. A very clean binding though with slight but even spine fading. Text block firmly bound in. All pages are of custom Arches vellum paper with fore edge and bottom edge deckled to a handsome effect. Pastedowns/FEPs of navy blue textured paper. 367 numbered pages. With 273 drawings 476 paintings and 31 etchings all reproduced in B&W in small scale. Light foxing to some pages at front and back including half-title and title page. Else an impressively clean interior with no stampings or underlining observed. Lacking the slipcase that originally accompanied the limited edition. A Very Good volume. Rare in any condition. 5 lbs. 5 oz. This book is a catalogue raisonné of the art of Suzanne Valadon 1856-1938. She was the first female artist admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Her post-Impressionist work consisted of still-lifes nudes landscapes and female portraits. Édition à tirage limité illustrée de la reproduction en noir des oeuvres de Valadon décrites dans l'ouvrage. Un des 1000 exemplaires sur vélin d'Arches numérotés en chiffres arabes.
