The first edition of 1919 appeared with the title reading simply: "The Diary of Bartlett Yancey Malone." The author served in Company H 6th N.C. Infantry from July 1861 to November 1863 when he was captured and imprisoned at Point Lookout Maryland. Before his capture he participated in most of the important battles of the Army of Northern Virginia including Gettysburg.
