Finely engraved and detailed map of two routes to Pekin Beijing along the White River Baihe from the Gulf of Petcheli and along the Imperial Highway from Jehol and includes commentary locating palaces and gardens type of cultivation "many barges" and "the road shaded by willow trees". In their design practice many architectural designers have drawn a large number of architectural drawings and they also often do architectural sketches. This album is selected from the drawings sent to our agency by many architectural designers and art workers across the country. After our agency issued a notice to collect architectural drawings in March this year many architectural designers and teachers from the Department of Architecture of colleges and universities responded enthusiastically and sent more than 1700 works. Our agency invited relevant experts to form an architectural painting selection committee to evaluate these works. The selection committee was composed of the following comrades: Bai Zuomin Qi Kang Zhu Ying Hua Yiyu Du Rujian Wu Liangyong He Zhenqiang Zhang Kaiji Zhong Xunzheng Xi Xiaopeng Huang Yuanqiang Peng Yigang and Dai Nianci. After repeated evaluation more than 200 excellent works were selected. When selecting the proportion of the number of works of each type of painting was appropriately considered. This album will be published on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The only identified photo has text on the verso of a gifting of the image to Suzuki Torao f rom Major General Yurin Monento. the other Images are primarily casual snapshots of army buddies with their dogs military groups at attention and in formation some formal photos of military leaders some of a Japanese home a 4 shot series of Geisha girls posing outside with 'bubble captions' overhead in Japanese a splitback postcard of Public Park Ohmotodani Itsukushima a studio photo of a woman and two children in formal Japanese dress a snapshot of a young Japanese woman in Western clothing then the same woman in Japanese dress a used postcard of an Asian female dance troupe in coordinating dress holding hands with a sign 'go MACUS.SHOW" behind them. Interestingly the album cover is titled in pen in English "Photographs. Belongs to M. Asanoi" There was a Col. Asano Takashi part of the Manchukuo Imperial Army in 1936 so possibly this was a relation. 7 x 9 3/4" paper board covers taped at one long edge as binding. Paper pages with primarily tipped in casual snapshots postcards a few formal photos varying in size 3.25 x 2.5" 8 4.25 x 3" 5 5.75 x 4.5" 14 6.25 x 4.5 1. Covers dusty spine chipped but holding interior pages some torn some photos detached but present. Photos in very good condition. Front cover has printed WW11 battle scene illustration laid down last interior page has a similar illustration. 32 photos on 25 pages. The albur holds 44 pp total. Two Photographs One Mounted On Card Of Modernist Ceramics By Herman Sachs An American Artist And Architectural Decorator Who Also Worked In Textiles And Ceramics Of Modernist Design. Born In Romania To Jewish Parents Herman Hermann Sachs Immigrated To The U.S. As A Child. He First Trained Under His German-Born Father A Painter In The Court Of Queen Elisabeth Of Romania. Sachs Continued His Artistic Training In Europe Spending The 1910-1920 Period In Germany Where He Founded The Munich School Of Expressionists Munich Expressionist Werkstätten. Upon Returning To The United States In 1920 Sachs Exhibited At The Art Institute Of Chicago And Established The Chicago Industrial Art School Which Soon Failed Due To Lack Of Sufficient Funding. Afterward Sachs Became The First Director Of The Dayton Museum Of Fine Arts Now The Dayton Art Institute. During This Time He Also Served As The U.S. Representative Of Artist George Grosz. Around 1924 Sachs Moved To Los Angeles Where He Designed The Interiors Of The New Gas Company Building. As A Muralist And Decorator Sachs Went On To Design The Interiors Of Many Los Angeles Landmarks Including The Bullocks Wilshire Building Now Home To Southwestern Law School Union Station Los Angeles City Hall And The Title Insurance And Trust Company Building. An Educator As Well As An Artist Sachs Also Directed The Creative Art Students League Of Los Angeles. Sachs Was Active Within The L.A. Weimar Exile Community Of Artists Writers And Filmmakers. His Friend The Architect Rudolph Schindler Designed Sachs' L.A. House The Manola Court Apartments. <br/> <br/> Herman Sachs unknown
