Dalton of Philadelphia. The condition of the volumes and their respective slipcases are given below. Several of the volumes feature illustrations and/or designs by Rey Abruzzi and typography by Robert Donald. All were printed by Dalton's firm Typographic Service Inc. Included: 1950 - A Christmas Carol 284/600 NF/G. 1952 - The Chimes 442/900 F/VG-. 1953 - The Holly Tree 37/900 with presentation card NF/NF. 1954 - Christmas at Dingley Dell 336/1000 NF/VG. 1956 - The Battle of Life 364/1000 with presentation card NF/G. 1957 - Somebody's Luggage 845/1000 with presentation card F/NF. 1958 - Mrs. Lirriper's Legacy 1076/1200 with presentation card F/VG. 1963 - Excerpts from The Pickwick Papers: First Day's Journey and the First Evening's Adventures with Their Consequences. 1260/1300 F/NF. Between 1950 and 1968 Samuel Dalton issued 19 consecutive Christmas editions of works by Charles Dickens. The scarcest title by far is the first appropriately being A Christmas Carol. Samuel Arnold ''Sam'' Dalton was the founder and longtime president of Typographic Service Incorporated the Philadelphia firm he founded in 1930. In June 1962 he received a special award from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art for ''furthering the fine art of typography.'' He died at home on December 6 1968. The free-lance artist Reynold Joseph ''Rey'' Abruzzi Sr. 1914-2002 was a native of Philadelphia and a graduated from the South Philadelphia High School for Boys in 1931. In the early 1960s he was the head of Abruzzi Design in Philadelphia. After gaining an illustrious reputation for supervising the scenery at the Paris Opera during the French Revolution, Percier was later appointed by Napoleon Bonaparte. With the Emperor's support, he developed the opulent versions of neoclassicism closely associated with the Napoleonic era, and now known as Directoire style and Empire style. Percier worked on the renovation or redecoration of many of France's royal palaces, including the Louvre, the Tuileries, and the chateaux of Malmaison, Saint-Cloud, and Fontainebleau. Un volume in folio grande (31x47 cm) di (2)-43 pagine, + 71 (su 72) tavole incise a piena pagina; un'incisione anche alla prima pagina. In barbe. Cartonato moderno. La seconda e migliore edizione (quella del 1802 conteneva solo 60 tavole) dell'opera che segna la consacrazione dello “Stile Impero”: autori i due architetti ed Interior designers (si direbbe oggi) preferiti da Napoleone, e quindi da tutta la sua corte. Nel volume vengono illustrati arredamenti dei palazzi dell'Imperatore e di altri grandi personaggi della Francia napoleonica. Il gusto è in gran parte ispirato alla moda egizia. Delle 72 tavole incise da Lacour manca la n. 14. Il volume è ancora in barbe, ha quindi margini eccezionalmente larghi ed è senza arrossamenti, macchie, foxing o bruniture (pur non essendo lavato). (NB: Date le dimensioni deve essere inviato come Paccocelere)

Elected the architectural book of the year by the International Artbook and Film Festival in Perpignan, France, Frédéric Chaubin's Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed explores 90 buildings in 14 former Soviet Republics. Each of these structures expresses what Chaubin considers the fourth age of Soviet architecture, an unknown burgeoning that took place from 1970 until 1990. Contrary to the 1920s and 1950s, no "school" or main trend emerges here. These buildings represent a chaotic impulse brought about by a decaying system. Taking advantage of the collapsing monolithic structure, architects went far beyond modernism, going back to the roots or freely innovating. Some of the daring ones completed projects that the Constructivists would have dreamt of (Druzhba Sanatorium, Yalta), others expressed their imagination in an expressionist way (Palace of Weddings, Tbilisi). A summer camp, inspired by sketches of a prototype lunar base, lays claim to Suprematist influence (Prometheus youth camp, Bogatyr). Then comes the "speaking architecture" widespread in the last years of the USSR: a crematorium adorned with concrete flames (Crematorium, Kiev), a technological institute with a flying saucer crashed on the roof (Institute of Scientific Research, Kiev), a political center watching you like Big Brother (House of Soviets, Kaliningrad). In their puzzle of styles, their outlandish strategies, these buildings are extraordinary remnants of a collapsing system.In their diversity and local exoticism, they testify both to the vast geography of the USSR and its encroaching end of the Soviet Union, the holes in a widening net. ill., br. Il fotografo Frédéric Chaubin ci mostra 90 edifici situati in ex repubbliche sovietiche che esprimono ciò che può essere considerato come la quarta età dell'architettura sovietica. Testimoniano infatti, l'inaspettata rinascita dell'immaginazione che ebbe luogo fra gli anni '70 e il 1990. In quel periodo contrariamente a quanto successe negli anni '20 e '30 non emerse nessun tipo di "scuola". Sono edifici la cui architettura esprime più che altro il nuovo impulso caotico che nasceva da un sistema in disfacimento. Gli architetti approfittando del crollo della struttura monolitica, si diedero ad esplorare periodi e stili risalendo alle radici o semplicemente creando e innovando. Alcuni dei più audaci completarono i progetti solo sognati dai Construttivisti, altri preferirono l'espressionismo. Nacque così un puzzle di stili che rappresentava tutte le ossessioni di quel difficile periodo: l'ossessione per il cosmo, la rinascita della proprietà privata. Cheick Diallo, (né au Mali en 1960) découvre le design dans les années 1980 lors de ses études d'architecture en France. Il oeuvre à la fois en France et au Mali. Cette première monographie du designer accompagne une exposition au musée Mandet de Riom (France) qui présente une rétrospective de son travail depuis 25 ans. On y trouve ses premières pièces basées sur le principe de la récupération : bibliothèques, tables et sièges en boîtes de conserve mais aussi sa ligne de mobilier tressé de fils de nylon et une multitude de meubles et d'objets reposant sur le détournement de techniques traditionnelles : de l'impression de cire sur du cuir à la création d'objets précieux mêlant le savoir-faire des bijoutiers touaregs à ceux des sculpteurs sur ébène pour des coffrets, des lampes et des couverts. Préfacé par Marie-Josée Linou, Conservateur en chef du patrimoine, directrice des musées de Riom Communauté, l'ouvrage donne la parole à des spécialistes du design et de l'art contemporain africain, à travers un cheminement très richement illustré, où les objets racontent une histoire.
