br. Che cosa ha a che fare il design con l'innovazione? Nonostante l'intenso dibattito dell'ultimo decennio su questo tema, la risposta alla domanda non è né banale né scontata; e questo a causa delle molte debolezze intrinseche alla disciplina del design. Proprio a partire dall'analisi di tali debolezze inizia questo libro, il cui obiettivo è chiarire - prima di tutto ai designer - il contributo che il design può dare all'innovazione di un prodotto. I primi due capitoli sono dedicati a una definizione ragionata dei due termini chiave: design e innovazione. Il testo affronta quindi il tema dell'innovazione guidata dal design, con l'obiettivo di distinguere il contributo del design da quello dell'ingegneria e delle discipline economiche. Strettamente legato al tema dell'innovazione è il concetto di creatività: essa è infatti considerata il punto di partenza di ogni processo innovativo. Per questa ragione, il testo offre un resoconto dei principali strumenti utili per sostenere le varie fasi del processo creativo. Grande attenzione è dedicata a uno strumento in particolare, l'analogia, molto vicina al modo di ragionare dei designer. Gli ultimi due capitoli analizzano come si svolga nelle aziende lo sviluppo di prodotti innovativi e il ruolo che il design può assumere in tale processo. Infatti, il successo di un'innovazione guidata dal design dipende, oltre che ovviamente dalla qualità del designer, dalla qualità del rapporto che si stabilisce tra designer e impresa.
