A beautiful copy of Murgers short story which describes a tragic love affair between a Francine, a seamstress, and a sculptor named Jacques. Murger (1822-1861) published Scènes De La Vie De Bohème in 1851 which served as the inspiration for Puccinis massively popular opera La Bohème. Illustrated by Henri Boutet (1851-1919) , le Petit Maître au corset,
a French Belle Époque artist whose work focused on the genre La Parisienne. OCLC lists just 2 copies worldwide of this edition (UC Riverside, BCU DORIGNY) , including none in France, only one in the US and none on the East Coast. Very good condition. (FR-3-5)
