Poi, quasi per caso, la sua vita diventa straordinaria, e davanti alla mente del lettore iniziano a scorrere le immagini dei primi bijoux e accessori creati per hobby con la complicità del fratello Alberto, i lunghi soggiorni in India, il debutto a Roma nell'alta moda, il trionfo a Parigi come stilista dí punta della prestigiosissima Maison Dior, il ritorno a Milano e il consolidamento del suo successo. Uomo di poche parole ma di grande generosità, timido e irruento, riservato e ferocemente ironico, amante dei viaggi, dell'arte, delle sue case e della buona cucina. Ma soprattutto, amante delle persone. In questo libro saranno proprio coloro che lo hanno conosciuto e gli sono stati vicino a ricordarlo e a raccontarlo: Rita Airaghi, cugina del Maestro, ma soprattutto suo fidato «braccio destro» e attuale direttrice della Fondazione Ferré; collaboratori sempre attenti e disponibili come Giorgio Re e Silvia Gavina; amici insospettabili quali Roberto Vecchioni e Gino Paoli; uomini e donne importanti nella sua carriera di stilista come Gaetano e Alberta Marzotto, Sibilla della Gherardesca e personaggi del mondo delle sfilate come Sergio Salerni, Piero Piazzi, Eva Riccobono. A coordinare questo caleidoscopio di ricordi e testimonianze, la regia attenta e sapiente dell'autrice, che ha conosciuto direttamente lo stilista e giostrando abilmente voci, toni e sguardi ce ne restituisce lo spirito e la profondità, quello stile di cui oggi sentiamo davvero la mancanza. L'opera è arricchita da fotografie in cui sono documentate le diverse fasi della carriera di Gianfranco Ferré e anche del suo privato, bozzetti degli abiti e immagini delle sfilate.
