‎Designer, kunstenaar en architect Frans Van Praet (1937) is vooral bekend om de interieurinrichting van het Belgisch Paviljoen op de wereldtentoonstelling in Sevilla (1992) en zijn iconische Sevillazitje. Frans Van Praet werd geboren in 1937 in Sint-Amands aan de Schelde. Als jonge man vertoeft hij in het kunstenaarsmilieu rond Galerie De Zwarte Panter. Het is in deze context dat men zijn beeldend werk moet plaatsen: een Vlaams surrealisme, dat al woordspelend knipoogt met beelden. In zijn realisaties komt een boeiende ambiguiteit naar voren: verhalende exuberantie gaat hand in hand met de minder-is-meer-soberheid van het minimalisme. Deze beperking waarin men de meester herkent, is de hoofdlijn die Van Praet volgt wanneer hij gebruiksvoorwerpen ontwerpt.
