Markgraf, Monika (editor)
Archäologie der Moderne: Sainerung Bauhaus Dessau = Archaeology of Modernism: Renovation Bauhaus Design
Berlin: Jovis Verlag 2006. 1st. SC. New. 9.4x6.5x0.9in. In the process of renovating Walter Gropius's seminal 1926 Bauhaus building in Dessau Germany which was added to UNESCO's World Heritage list in 1996 architectural plans were unearthed among sheaves of long-forgotten paperwork door handles discovered in the basement and original windows found in a greenhouse. This icon of Modernism and brick-and-mortar manifesto of Bauhaus ideas has always been regarded as a revolution in twentieth century architecture--not merely as the formal architectonic expression of Modernist ideals but as a laboratory for the technical innovations in building materials and methods that helped to drive that design. Archaeology of Modernism explores the design school's construction in light of early twentieth-century culture and society and its renovation today recording the detective work that went into its restoration and offering up surprising rediscovered details including its original paint colors. Illustrated with photographs plans and sketches some in color. Text in English and German. <br>255pp 1.77lb 9.4x6.5x0.9in Jovis Verlag unknown

VOLK, Kurt H
ABC Gem Box: A Display of Skill in Typography
New York: Kurt H. Volk Inc 1941. First edition. Hardcover. One of 500 copies. A collection of 27 loose typographic samples. The first is a statement about this production that includes publication information and an illustration of the letters K H V. The remaining 26 folded sheets each feature one letter. All of the sheets are in very near fine condition and are in an about fair folding box that has some soiling wear and splitting along the spine. Still a solid copy of this very attractive production.
