A lovely item. Condition: Very good condition. There is rubbing to the board's edges and the book has a very slightly musty odour but the leather spine is in very good order. Vienna: Verein für Soziale Wohnkultur 1958. Two vintage furniture and home decor booklets produced by Austrian furniture maker Soziale Wohnkultur for subsidized housing in Vienna circa 1958. One booklet illustrated throughout with black-and-white and color photographs the other illustrated with black-and-white photographs only. Text in German. <br /> <br /> In 1952 in the midst of rebuilding the city after WWII the government of Vienna formed a furniture initiative called Soziale Wohnkultur or "Social Living Culture" a project spearheaded by architect Franz Schuster. The project introduced a line of furniture for low-income municipal housing residents that was designed to be attractive and high quality but also inexpensive and practical for small apartments. A number of prominent Austrian designers were commissioned to work on the project and the resulting designs ranged from kitchen bedroom and living furniture to wall shelving and lamps all emblazoned with the "SW" logo. The furniture and fittings produced by the SW are considered to have had a significant influence on mid-century Austrian design and extant furniture from the period is still highly in demand today. <br /> <br /> Booklets 5.75 x 7 inches. Poster designed by Inkweed Studios with a label affixed to the recto stating showtimes. Presumably either unique or produced in very small quantity. Mounted on art board as issued and used.<br /> <br /> Founded in 1951 by Beat poet Kabbalist and Lower East Side underground luminary Lionel Ziprin with his wife illustrator and dancer Joanne Ziprin Inkweed Studios was originally created to produce "studio cards"-greeting cards to rival the mass-produced cards produced by the Hallmark Company. While not financially successful Inkweed did produce many outstanding graphics such as the poster on offer here. The company also served as the launching pad for the graphic work of artists such as Harry Smith Jordan Belson Bruce Conner Barbara Remington and William Mohr. <br /> <br /> Jack Gelber's landmark play within a play observes a producer and writer attempting to stage a production using "real" heroin addicts largely jazz musicians waiting for their score interspersed with jazz music. Notable not only for its honest depiction of addiction the play also radically re-imagined the relationship between audience and actor with actors utilizing the theatre's aisles as performance areas an actor presented as an audience member and actors remaining in character and panhandling during intermission. A key play in the history of American jazz and an evocative portrait and product of the Beat era. Winner of three Obie Awards including Best New Play Best All-Around Production and Best Actor for Warren Finnerty. Made into an equally groundbreaking and largely unrecognized motion picture in 1961 directed by Shirley Clarke and starring Finnerty and William Redfield.<br /> <br /> 13.75 x 21.75 inches archivally framed to 16.25 x 24.25 inches. Loudonville OH: The Flxible Company 1954. Archive of 22 vintage photographs of the Flxible Land Cruiser motorhome circa 1954. Of the 22 photographs in the collection 17 bear stamps on the versos six bear annotations noting serial number and descriptions and eleven bear stamps noting the serial number model and company. <br /> <br /> The collection includes one photograph of the exterior of the motorhome and 21 photographs of the very mid-century modern interior frequently with models in various positions demonstrating the vehicle's comfort and luxury. Eight of the photographs note a serial number beginning with "B53" and one photograph notes a serial number beginning with "B54" likely indicating production in 1953 and 1954.<br /> <br /> Founded in 1913 in Loudonville Ohio Flxible was a manufacturer of motorcycle sidecars funeral cars ambulances intercity coaches and transit buses. In 1948 Flxible introduced its Land Cruiser model a standard 29 passenger Clipper shell with an elaborately furnished interior heralding a new era in recreational vehicles and introducing the motorhome to the American public during the automobile boom of the 1950s and 1960s. Notably the vehicle proved popular with R&B and country musicians providing a comfortable and practical vehicle for touring preceding the arrival of the modern tour bus. The company sold its Land Cruiser division to Custom Coach Corporation in 1955 and discontinued marketing the finished conversions while continuing to manufacture the shells of the vehicles. The last Flxible vehicles were produced in 1995 and the company declared bankruptcy in 1996.<br /> <br /> 10 x 8 inches. Nearly all the materials in the archive are overlaid with Campbell Ewald Advertising Agency watermarks or bear GM Photographic stamps on the bottom margins or versos. Of particular note are 100 proofs and mockups for print advertisements for various Chevrolet vehicles markedly reflecting the era's fuel crisis and imposing international compact car market.<br /> <br /> Photographs largely 11 x 8.5 inches with some photographs 10 x 8 inches.
