Colored frontispiece of sweet peas. Written by the author of Recipe For The Million it contains a wealth of practical information for garden lovers. The text can be readily had in various internet formats and reproductions.but the satisfaction of the boldly handsome binding representing the best elements of the Arts and Crafts period of design cannot be captured in modern commercial endeavors. Most in the neo-Rimpa style which Unsodo artists pioneered at the beginning of the last century - bold and lovely. A bit of browning and fading the covers show some wear but overall very good condition a very nice impression of this important set. Complete. KIMONO DESIGN - MANUSCRIPT. 10 1/2" x 14 1/2" oblong design book bound in single backed sheets on the short side with string not fukuro-toji. With a brushed title label sealed throughout but otherwise anonymous. As often happens with manuscripts the name of the shop which used it as a pattern book has been excised. There are 25 black and white design sketches for elaborate kimono. More of a Kano rather than a Rimpa style. The album probably dates from the first half of the 19th Century. A lovely item which suffers from very bad worming throughout. Though the damage is worse at the extremities of the work holes are shot through the paper and effect the design images as well. As Sekka's last work it crowns his remarkable career with a lovely evocation of Koetsu's Saga-bon. For more on this important work see Hillier's description on p.976 of the second volume of his ART OF THE JAPANESE BOOK. The condition is a bit better than average with relatively little of the offsetting from the prints to the poems that is usual in this book. Slight foxing and slight edgewear. The printing is very good the colors lovely. It is a very good copy overall. Housed in the original professionally repaired chitsu case with title label that shows general soiling all over and is lacking its clasps. One volume complete:. unknown books
