‎THE ALBUM of NEW YORK VIEWS‎

‎Hard covers. This is a photolithographic gift book of New York. There are 28 small photographs of scenes in New York that look like photographs, but many are photographs of prints which has been reworked to look like glossy photos. They have been printed in a rich sepia toned ink. The images are of various places, buildings, and landmarks in the horse and buggy days as well as elevated railroads. The opening photo is a miniature bird's eye view of Manhatten with Brooklyn and New Jersey spread across both pages - tiny, but clear. There are sailing and steam ships on the rivers. The look of New York of that period is captured and the variety of photos is encompassing - Cotton Exchange, Hebrew Orphan Asylum, High Curve Elevated Railroad, Grand Central Depot. The cover is a finely pebbled cloth - tan brown with a subtlely blind-stamped floral bouquet design and a banner title with the title New York and a sillouette of the Statue of Liberty. The gilt that was once on the cover has faded. The covers are thin. There is edge wear and a touch of soil. The interior is clean and bright. And without wear. The pages are in a folding accordian display.‎

‎Suite de 21 estampes marquées "Suite d'essai" pour l'ouvrage Ponts de Paris, recueil de 20 poèmes de Jean-Louis Vallas, accompagné de 20 gravures, publié à Paris, Butte Montmartre en 1943. In-folio (32 x 25 cm), en feuilles sous chemise et étui d'éditeur. Motif en maroquin vert représentant un pont et portant le titre dur le premier plat. Chaque feuillets est légendé et signé au crayon par l'artiste. Tiré sur papier vergé.‎

‎Ce recueil n'avait été tiré qu'à 26 exemplaires et comportait seulement 20 estampes. C'est le premier ouvrage publié par le poète Jean-Louis Vallas (1901-1995) qui fut par la suite honoré de nombreux prix (Prix de poésie populiste 1949, Prix A. Drouin, le grand Prix de poésie des Rosati dArtois et la Rose dhonneur des Rosati de France en 1956, Prix François Coppé de l'Académie française en 1995...). Robert Naly (Genève 1900-Montmartre 1983) était un peintre, décorateur, graveur et lithographe suisse qui vécut et travailla à Montmartre et à Montparnasse. Il fut lun des principaux représentants de la première École de Paris. Il réalise ici des estampes selon différentes techniques (pointe sèche, eau-forte aquateintée, eau-forte, sucre, burin aquateinté, vernis mou, burin, roulette et sucre, gravure au vélo et manière noire) ; il représente les ponts suivants : Pont Marie, Pont Louis-Philippe, Pont de la Villette, Pont Royal, Pont Caulaincourt, Pont de l'Alma, Petit Pont, Pont Mirabeau, Pont de la Concorde, Pont Alexandre III, Pont Sully, Pont de la Grande-aux-Belles, Pont des Arts, Pont des Batignolles, Pont Neuf, Pont du Carrousel, Pont Toutout, Passerelle de Tokyo , Viaduc de Passy, Pont des Suicidés, Pont de Bercy.
