Notre exemplaire est une des très rares épreuves imprimées sur papier Japon, toute petite trace de punaisage dans l'extrémité de la marge supérieure gauche (Our plate is one of the few copies printed on Japanese paper. Original plate in good condition). LES MAITRES DE L'AFFICHE, prestigieuse publication d'art, éditée par l'atelier de lithographie Chaix, dont la parution s'étala de décembre 1895 à novembre 1900. Chaque livraison comportait 4 planches de reproduction en chromolithographie d'une remarquable qualité d'impression des plus belles affiches illustrées des grands artistes français et étrangers (auxquelles il faut ajouter 16 planches de lithographies originales offertes en prime aux abonnés). Lors de l'Exposition universelle de 1889, fut organisée la première exposition rétrospective dévolue à l'affiche, celle-ci devait valider la reconnaissance officielle d'appartenance de l'affiche au monde de l'art. Jules Chéret (1836-1932) y sera sacré '' Maître de l'affiche '', c'est aussi à cette date que Seurat commencera à collectionner les affiches de Chéret. Red/maroon half-leather rebound Hardcovers. Parts of original spine pasted on as labels rebound spine. Original spine labels worn and peeling. Spine edges slightly bumped. Binding slightly loose and visible between front cover and whitepage. Ex-library copy with stamp on title page. Several pages water stained. Most printed plates have created "shadow" age-stains on either the previous or the following page. Text block edges browning. Pages yellowing, slightly wavy and age-stained. [VOL.1]: First whitepage coming loose from binding. [VOL.2]: Wormhole extending from front inner cover into page edges - NO damage to text or prints! Bleistiftzeichnung auf bläulichem Papier, signiert “Perger”. 35,9:21,5 cm (Bildausschnitt) auf Untersatzkarton (43:32,3 cm). Die eh. Verse am unteren Rand der Darstellung: “Ach - unser Leben leitet | Ein starrer Herrscherblick. | Und jeder glaubt bereitet | Ein neues sich und schreitet | Nur durch ein alt Geschick”. - Seiner politischen Schriften wegen 1854 aus dem Staatsdienst entlassen, wurde Traun 1859 Generalsekretär der Versicherungsanstalt ‘Vindobona’ in Wien und später Mitglied des Reichsrats, wo er sich als liberaler Gegner des Tiroler Klerikalen Josef Greuter zu profilieren wußte. Von 1870 an lebte der mit Theodor Storm befreundete Schriftsteller zurückgezogen auf Schloß Leopoldskron bei Salzburg und verfaßte u. a. die später von Carl Zuckmayer bearbeitete Novelle ‘Der Schelm von Bergen’ (1879) und die an Heine orientierten ‘Exkursionen eines Österreichers’ (1881).
