Architecte et decorateur, Jacques Adnet (1900-1984) travaille a partir de 1920 avec Maurice Dufrene, quil suivra, deux ans plus tard, a La Maitrise des Galeries Lafayette. epris de fonctionnalisme, il cree des meubles fortement construits, souvent depourvus de tout decor. Conception claire, logique, materiaux raffines constituent les traits caracteristiques d?une production qu?il realise frequemment en collaboration avec son frere jumeau Jean. A partir de 1923, ils exposent ensemble aux principaux Salons et, lors de l?Exposition des Arts decoratifs de 1925, ils presentent leur propre stand sur l?esplanade des Invalides, ainsi qu?un grand meuble dans le hall de l??« ambassade francaise ?» et d?autres meubles dans le pavillon de La Maitrise. En 1928, Jean Adnet devient directeur du service des etalages des Galeries Lafayette, tache a laquelle il consacrera desormais une grande partie de son activite. Jacques, quant a lui, quitte La Maitrise et prend pour plus de trente ans la direction de la Compagnie des Arts francais qu?avaient fondee Sue et Mare en 1919. Il fabrique des sieges, des tables de chevet, des tables gigognes en tube a section carree ou en lame, des tables basses recouvertes de dalles de verre, des petits meubles entierement constitues de glaces argentees et vissees sur une armature invisible. Apres la Seconde Guerre mondiale, sans pour autant abandonner le metal, Adnet revient volontiers au bois pour realiser des meubles aux formes simples, classiques, peu ornes, qui evoquent parfois le style Restauration. Il execute de tres nombreux ensembles mobiliers, en particulier pour l?hotel de M. Frank Jay Gould, pour l?appartement de Mme Alice Cocea, pour le cabinet de travail du president de la Republique au chateau de Rambouillet (1947), pour l?appartement prive du president Vincent Auriol a l?elysee, pour plusieurs paquebots, dont le Ferdinand-de-Lesseps (1952), pour l?Unesco (1958), etc. LES AUTEURS. Alain-Rene Hardy est specialise depuis plus de vingt-cinq ans dans le commerce des antiquites de la premiere moitie du XXe siecle. Expert a l?Hotel Drouot, il enseigne egalement l?histoire des arts decoratifs du XXe siecle dans des institutions d?enseignement superieur et est conferencier de Drouot-Formation. Grand connaisseur de l?activite des ateliers d?art des grands magasins, il est l?auteur du seul ouvrage dis ponible sur les Tissus Art Deco ainsi que de la premiere etude consacree aux Craqueles Art Deco. Titulaire d?un Master II en gestion du marche de l?Art, Gaelle Millet a consacre son memoire de fin d?etudes a la mise en lumiere de l?oeuvre de Jacques Adnet. Specialisee dans les arts decoratifs du XXe siecle, elle a acquis partie de son savoir aupres du musee des Arts decoratifs de Paris, mais aussi de maisons de vente comme otheby?s, Camard et Associes, etc.
