Architecte et decorateur, Jacques Adnet (1900-1984) travaille a partir de 1920 avec Maurice Dufrene, quil suivra, deux ans plus tard, a La Maitrise des Galeries Lafayette. epris de fonctionnalisme, il cree des meubles fortement construits, souvent depourvus de tout decor. Conception claire, logique, materiaux raffines constituent les traits caracteristiques d?une production qu?il realise frequemment en collaboration avec son frere jumeau Jean. A partir de 1923, ils exposent ensemble aux principaux Salons et, lors de l?Exposition des Arts decoratifs de 1925, ils presentent leur propre stand sur l?esplanade des Invalides, ainsi qu?un grand meuble dans le hall de l??« ambassade francaise ?» et d?autres meubles dans le pavillon de La Maitrise. En 1928, Jean Adnet devient directeur du service des etalages des Galeries Lafayette, tache a laquelle il consacrera desormais une grande partie de son activite.
