‎Publie a l'occasion de l'exposition ?« Mobi Boom ?» au musee des Arts decoratifs a Paris, du 23 septembre au 2 janvier 2011. Ne au Havre, fils et petit-fils de marin, Marcel Gascoin (1907-1986) est marque des sa jeunesse par la precision de l'amenagement interieur des bateaux. Invite a la premiere exposition de l'UAM en 1930 sur la recommandation de l'architecte Robert Mallet-Stevens, il en devient membre et prend part aux concours organises en 1934, avec une cabine de bateau en acier realisee dans les Ateliers Jean Prouve, et en 1936, avec du mobilier scolaire. Pendant la guerre, il approfondit ses recherches sur l'organisation rationnelle du foyer, met au point une gamme d'elements modulaires pour la cuisine qu'il commercialise en 1946 sous la marque Comera et pose les bases d'un systeme de rangement integre a l'architecture. Ce succes aupres du public le conduit a fonder l'ARHEC (Amenagement rationnel de l'habitation et des collectivites) en s'entourant des plus talentueux createurs de l'apres-guerre, tels Pierre Guariche, Joseph-Andre Motte, Michel Mortier, Alain Richard, Pierre Paulin. Dans l'histoire des arts decoratifs, Marcel Gascoin est celui qui a inculque les principes du courant rationaliste social d'avant guerre aux jeunes decorateurs, dont le but sera de produire dans les annees 50 des modeles pour l'industrie, accessibles au plus grand nombre. Ce livre est realise a partir du tres important fonds Gascoin conserve a la bibliotheque des Arts decoratifs. Nouveau livre.‎
