Light use at extreme edges otherwise very good or better. Five stills used in promotion of the US release of Greene's own reconception and adaptation to the screen of his short story "The Basement Room." The film released in the U.K. in 1948 was directed by Carol Reed and starred Ralph Richardson Michele Morgan Sonia Dresdel Jack Hawkins et al. THE THIRD MAN . SECOND DRAFT SCRIPT wrapper title
Np: London Film Productions for Selznick Releasing Organization 1948. 118 leaves. Quarto. Mimeographed typescript printed on rectos only. Bradbound in typescript blue wrappers with small script number stamp. Slight sunning at edges of wrappers else about fine. A "second draft" of this original screenplay by Greene with uncredited contributions by Orson Welles who it is said wrote his own dialogue and Carol Reed the director. The English production premiered in the UK on 31 August 1949 and opened in the U.S. in February 1950 with distribution through Selznick Releasing Organization. This script is one of a small number of preproduction scripts prepared for use by the latter group. The cast included Joseph Cotton Orson Welles Trevor Howard and Allida Valli and the film was appreciated in its own time via a number of nominations and awards and appreciated even more considerably by posterity. Greene published an adaptation of the original treatment in 1950 and in 1968 a form of the final script with production revisions was published. Folded as issued small breaks at center folds with small rice-paper mends on verso title stamp and a few notations on verso pinprick mounting perforations in extreme corners else very good or better bright and fresh. A vintage one sheet promoting John Ford and Merian C. Cooper's film adaptation of Greene's THE POWER AND THE GLORY based on Dudley Nichols' screenplay. Henry Fonda Delores del Rio J. Carrol Naish Ward Bond and Leo Carrillo starred under Ford's direction. The production was shot on location in Mexico and utilized the skills of native cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa to whom may in part be attributed the fact that this is arguably one of the last of Ford's consciously visually artful films. Hills plays a girl hell-bent on ruining her father's new relationship with a woman whose questionable past as a stripper returns to haunt. Jennifer Hills hangs out at the Off-Beat a night club with jazz smoke and juvenile delinquents including "Plaid Shirt" Oliver Reed seen in the photograph on the shadowy staircase. The first British soundtrack to be released on vinyl and the breathtaking Egyptian Gillian Hills would go on to other notable films including "Blowup" 1966 and "A Clockwork Orange" 1971. 6 x 8.25 inches single weight small white border. Guerard's own involvement in the project is suggested by the fact that both Fisk's address and phone number in San Francisco as well as Guerard's address and phone number in Stanford appear in the prelims. The title- page bears a Writers Guild of America West registration number. Guerard's novel MAQUISARD saw adaptation to television in 1951 but IMDB records no other adaptations to see production. unknown books
