‎Wald Malvin screenwriter‎

‎BORN INTO TROUBLE .‎

‎Hollywood: ZIV Television Inc. 1953. 344 leaves plus lettered inserts. Quarto. Mimeographed and carbon typescript printed on rectos only. Bradbound in production company wrappers. Very very extensively annotated throughout in pencil and colored pencil with prompts revisions and camera/production notes. Clean slice into fore-margin of upper wrapper otherwise very good. A "Final Master" of this teleplay by Wald written for the FAVORITE STORY series production 70b and based on a short story "The Substitute" by Francois Coppée. Leslie Goodwins directed Robert Blake and Noah Beery Jr. and Adolphe Menjou introduced the episode as usual. This particular copy was intimately involved in the production of the episode and a manuscript designation on the upper wrapper implies it was used by Larry Lund the script supervisor. Wald had an extended and productive career as a screen and television writer for a number of the best known series of the 1950s and early 1960s. He was co-nominated with Albert Maltz for an Oscar and WG Award for screenwriting for the 1948 film THE NAKED CITY. ZIV Television, Inc. unknown books‎

‎Walt Disney producer; William Beaudine director; Mary Jane Carr novel; Thomas W. Blackburn screenwriter; Fess Parker Kathleen C‎

‎Westward Ho the Wagons! Children of the Covered Wagon Original screenplay for the 1956 film Walt Disney's annotated copy‎

‎Burbank CA: Walt Disney Productions 1955. Draft script for the 1956 film here under the working title "Children of the Covered Wagon." Walt Disney's working copy with "Walt Disney" in holograph ink on upper left margin of Walt Disney Productions label on the front wrapper not in Disney's hand and annotations in red blue and graphite holograph pencil throughout all clearly in Disney's hand. The most substantive of the annotations denote sequence order and use of stock footage.

Our first reaction was to doubt such close involvement by Disney on a 1950s feature but it turns out that this film was special: it was Disney's first Western and only its second live-action CinemaScope feature following on the heels of the wildly successful "20000 Leagues Under the Sea" the year before. Too Disney's first animated CinemaScope feature "Lady and the Tramp" was released just prior to this film in the summer of 1955. All three were major debuts for Disney and Walt Disney's involvement was naturally more hands-on than usual.

Based on the 1934 novel "Children of the Covered Wagon" by Mary Jane Carr about a group of pioneers in a wagon train traveling across the West. Staring Disney stalwart Fess Parker of "Davey Crockett" fame as John "Doc" Grayson and featuring four Mouseketeers from the "Mickey Mouse Club" television series: Tommy Cole Doreen Tracey Cubby O'Brian and Karen Pendleton.

A one-hour Disneyland telecast on November 14 1956 entitled "Along the Oregon Trail" included a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of "Westward Ho the Wagons!" and on the day of the film's opening the first segment of a four-part series about Native Americans entitled "The First Americans" began on the Disneyland series.

Set in the American West shot on location at the Conejo Ranch near Thousand Oaks in California.

Red titled wrappers with affixed Walt Disney Productions label as called for with Disney scripts from this era with credits for screenwriter Tom Blackburn and production number 2093. 157 leaves with last page of text numbered 153. Mimeographed rectos only. Pages Near Fine wrapper Near Fine prong binding. Walt Disney Productions unknown books‎

‎On the Road Original screenplay for the 2012 film‎

‎New York: IFC Films 1980. Early unused Draft script for the 2012 film.

Francis Ford Coppola bought the rights for Jack Kerouac's seminal generation-defining novel in 1980 for $95000. Coppola then struggled to find a screenwriter to adapt the book as well as find a director. Eventually he settled on screenwriter Jose Rivera. Before that however he had drafts written under his direction from Michael Herr Barry Gifford Russell Banks and even one himself with son Roman. This draft is one of the first attempts of Coppola to adapt the novel which would not be made into a film until 2012 using Rivera's script under the direction of Walter Salles and produced by Coppola. The film version was first proposed in 1957 by Kerouac himself who wrote a one page appeal to actor Marlon Brando asking Brando to play the part of Dean Moriarty while Kerouac would play Sal Paradise. He never received a response from Brando.

After his father is buried Sal Paradise becomes acquainted with Dean Moriarty and along with his friend Carlo Marx decides to experience America from behind the wheel of a car rather than in the dusty classrooms of Columbia University.

Set in America shot on location in Canada America and Mexico.

Yellow untitled wrappers.
