Kerouac was paid $15000 by MGM for the rights to the book and bought his first home with the proceeds on Long Island. <br /> <br /> A film that rarely screened today and has never been available on any kind of home viewing format. While its perspective on the actual Beat scene may be skewed or wildly misinterpreted it is nonetheless important as an interpretation of Kerouac's world from the outside looking in. <br /> <br /> Shot on location in San Francisco California. <br /> <br /> 17 x 13 inches. A greedy aunt eventually confesses to framing Phyllis in attempt to retain the Allenby's family fortune and suddenly dies by falling down a flight of stairs and onto a knife. With all the right elements of atmosphere eerie stringed instrumentation as the score and impeccable effects the film was not well received. Vintage studio still photograph from the 1959 film. <br /> <br /> The first film by Cassavetes for which he raised the entirety of the production budget himself the story of three African American siblings in Harlem two of whom often pass for white. Begun as an acting exercise in a workshop Cassavetes was conducting with Burt Lane the story was originally filmed in 1958 with completely improvised dialogue and action based on scene outlines created by Cassavetes. <br /> <br /> After the film was poorly received at its three initial screening by just about everyone Cassavetes knew he reworked the ideas into a more traditional script with screenwriter Robert Alan Arthur and reshot the film replacing between half and two thirds of the original footage and dramatically altering the story. Released in 1959 this version better reflected his vision for the film and received a critics award when shown at the Venice Film Festival the following year. <br /> <br /> A watershed moment in American independent films heralding not just the arrival of a new iconoclastic director but the birth of an entire movement. <br /> <br /> Shot on location in New York. <br /> <br /> 8 x 10 inches. Text in Hungarian. <br /> <br /> One of the masterpieces of Hungarian cinema. A Russian-Hungarian co-production "The Red and the White" was originally commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution in Russia in which the Bolsheviks seized power. However Jancso chose to set the action two years later in 1919 and showed Hungarian irregulars supporting the Communist "Reds" in fighting the Tsarist "Whites" as the two sides battled for control in the hills overlooking the Volga river. As well as deviating on the required setting Jancso also chose to use a radically different approach to the film than that expected. Rather than shooting a hagiographic account of the birth of Soviet communism Jancso produced a profoundly anti-heroic film that depicts the senseless brutality of the Russian Civil War specifically and all armed combat in general. <br /> <br /> 7.75 x 3.5 folded 15.25 x 10.75 unfolded. Stewart and Sullivan pull off surprisingly believable roles for a plot of such sickly sweetness in this their second on-screen pairing. <br /> <br /> The third film based on Burnet's "Saturday Evening Post" story the first two being the 1919 George Melford silent film "Pettigrew's Girl" and Richard Wallace's part-talkie "The Shopworn Angel" 1928 starring Gary Cooper. Based on the 1957 novel by Alan Le May. <br /> <br /> In many ways a reflection on John Ford's 1956 film "The Searchers" which was also based on an Alan Le May novel "The Unforgiven" tells the story of a woman taken from her Native American tribe and raised by a white family. She struggles with her allegiance towards her adoptive family and her feelings towards another white man and a bloody battle ensues between the two communities. An uncommon film for its time it highlights the racism Native Americans had to endure from settlers of the Old West. <br /> <br /> A difficult shoot which included a severe back injury sustained by Audrey Hepburn when she fell off a horse director John Huston was unhappy with his producer's insistence on releasing a more commercially friendly film. While<br /> Hepburn and Huston would both eventually distance themselves from the film "The Unforgiven" remains a bold powerfully raw take on the Western with arguably some of the best performances of many of the actors involved. <br /> <br /> 20 x 25.5 inches.
