New York: Challenger Productions 1965. Ribbon copy typescript of a Preliminary Treatment script for an unproduced film. The manuscript does not name the author however we can reasonably presume this is Robert Newman's known treatment for Isak Dinesen's "Seven Gothic Tales" under the title "The Gothic Tales" which we have offered once in the past with that copy having a stated credit for Newman and also 53 pages; and also "Challenger Productions" as stated on title page as well as documented in Boston University's Robert Newman Collection. Contains several proofreading annotations in holograph ink throughout.<br/><br/>Based on the 1934 collection of short stories "Seven Gothic Tales" by Danish author Karen Blixen working under her more commonly recognized pseudonym Isak Dinesen Newman's screenplay is a series of vignettes taking place in 19th century Europe told from the perspective of the author.<br/><br/>Dinesen is also the author of the 1937 memoir "Out of Africa" which was made into Sydney Pollack's Academy Award winning 1985 film of the same name as well as the short story "Babette's Feast" from her 1958 collection "Anecdotes of Destiny" made into Gabriel Axel's Academy Award winning 1987 film of the same name.<br/><br/>In the late 1960s Orson Welles had the intention of creating an anthology of films adapted from Dinesen's stories. Only one was completed Welles' 1968 "The Immortal Story" starring Jeanne Moreau based on the short story of the same name from the 1958 collection "Anecdotes of Destiny." In the early 1980s Welles attempted to film "The Dreamers" based on the short story of the same name from "Seven Gothic Tales" and "Echoes" from the 1957 collection "Last Tales" but only completed a few scenes and abandoned the project after a lack of financing.<br/><br/>In 1982 Italian director Emidio Greco directed "Ehrengard" based upon Dinesen's novel of the same name but was not released until 2002 due to financial complications.<br/><br/>Set in Europe. <br/><br/>Blue untitled wrappers. Belushi and Aykroyd play against type Belushi being the ineffectual suburbanite husband and father Earl Keese and Aykroyd the obnoxious menacing Vic Zeck who moves in next door with his femme fatale wife Ramona Cathy Moriarty. When her neighbor an aspiring journalist suspects Danielle of a brutal murder the horror of Danielle's disturbing past begins to surface. Director Brian De Palma based his original story on a Life magazine article about conjoined twins in the Soviet Republic who had been successfully separated but were experiencing psychological problems as a result of the operation. <br/><br/>With its use of visually dense point-of-view and split-screen camera techniques "Sisters" is one of De Palma's earliest forays into erotic voyeurism as a conduit for psychological horror paving the way for a string of idiosyncratic psychosexual projects in the ensuing years such as "Obsession" 1976 "Dressed to Kill" 1980 "Blow Out" 1981 and "Body Double" 1984 among others. A 200 foot submarine a 225 pound diving suit a specially built soundstage with a 90 x 165 foot tank and a giant squid which weighed two tons and required a crew of 28 to operate were just some of the monumental challenges of the production. Disney's first CinemaScope motion picture "20000 Leagues Under the Sea" was a resounding success and went on to be considered one of greatest live-action adventure movies ever made.<br/><br/>In 1868 off the coast of San Francisco Professor Aronnax Paul Lukas his assistant Conseil Peter Lorre and master harpooner Ned Land Kirk Douglas set sail upon a armed frigate to investigate a spate of sinkings rumored to be caused by a sea monster. After months of searching the "monster" is spotted sinking a merchant vessel and the frigate attacks only to be sunk themselves. Adrift in the ocean the three come upon a strange metal vessel and realize the "monster" is a "submerging boat." The most substantive of the annotations denote sequence order and use of stock footage.<br/><br/>Our first reaction was to doubt such close involvement by Disney on a 1950s feature but it turns out that this film was special: it was Disney's first Western and only its second live-action CinemaScope feature following on the heels of the wildly successful "20000 Leagues Under the Sea" the year before. Too Disney's first animated CinemaScope feature "Lady and the Tramp" was released just prior to this film in the summer of 1955. All three were major debuts for Disney and Walt Disney's involvement was naturally more hands-on than usual.<br/><br/>Based on the 1934 novel "Children of the Covered Wagon" by Mary Jane Carr about a group of pioneers in a wagon train traveling across the West. Staring Disney stalwart Fess Parker of "Davey Crockett" fame as John "Doc" Grayson and featuring four Mouseketeers from the "Mickey Mouse Club" television series: Tommy Cole Doreen Tracey Cubby O'Brian and Karen Pendleton.<br/><br/>A one-hour Disneyland telecast on November 14 1956 entitled "Along the Oregon Trail" included a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of "Westward Ho the Wagons!" and on the day of the film's opening the first segment of a four-part series about Native Americans entitled "The First Americans" began on the Disneyland series.<br/><br/>Set in the American West shot on location at the Conejo Ranch near Thousand Oaks in California. <br/><br/>Red titled wrappers with affixed Walt Disney Productions label as called for with Disney scripts from this era with credits for screenwriter Tom Blackburn and production number 2093. 157 leaves with last page of text numbered 153. One of two films about Wilde released in May of 1960 the other being director Gregory Ratoff's "Oscar Wilde." In order to compete with the other Wilde film production on "The Trials of Oscar Wilde" was made in only nine weeks from start to finish with filming wrapping a mere two weeks before the London opening. Screenwriter James Dickey was best known for his prolific work as a poet as well as for the 1970 novel "Deliverance" and its subsequent adaptation for the 1972 film.<br/><br/>"The Sentence" was inspired by Dickey's 1975 arrest after crashing into a utility pole. Novelist Ben Greer who at the time worked as a prison guard and studied creative writing under Dickey at the University of South Carolina also acted as an uncredited consultant to the script.<br/><br/>Tan wrappers with a generic name-and-address logo for Charles Fries Productions.
