Monroe Marilyn regarding
Exclusive: New Marilyn Monroe Nudes within Saga The Magazine for Men - September 1962 Issue
NY: Macfadden-Bartell Corp. 1962. Light tears and some light waterstains. A little bit of brittleness. This Semptember issue came out before Marilyn's death and the photo feature is titled "Marilyn Comes Back with a Bang!" The editors explain that they bought the exlusive pictures since she had not appeared nude since the nude calendar photos of 15 years earlier. Rather very tame by today's standards and a frontal breast shot appears to be airbrushed. Saga went to the newstand early and this issue even announces the availability of the October Saga on Sale - August 28th. This same issue asks readers to compare the living Marilyn with Jean Harlow and they offer a story and pictures on Harlow and ask readers to vote for Marilyn or Jean. Rare in any condition. Magazine. Good Minus. 4to - over 9" - 12" Tall. Macfadden-Bartell Corp. Paperback

Fragments :; poems intimate notes letters
New York: Farrar Straus and Giroux 2010. First edition first printing full number line. Hardcover. Extremely gentle rubbing to corners extremely mild rubbing to spine head and foot light soiling to DJ else Near Fine in Near Fine DJ. Quarto in black multicolored DJ white spine x 239 pages chiefly b&w illustrations some color ; 27 cm. Motion picture actors and actresses -- United States. Marilyn Monroe's image is so universal that we can't help but believe that we know all there is to know of her. Every word and gesture made headlines and garnered controversy. Her serious gifts as an actrress were sometimes eclipsed by her notoriety and the way the camera fell helplessly in love with her. But what of the other Marilyn Beyond the headlines and the too familiar stories of heartbreak and desolation was a woman far more curious searching and hopeful than the one the world got to know. Even as Hollywood studios tried to mold and suppress her Marilyn never lost her insight her passion and her humor. To confront the mounting difficulties of her life she wrote. Now for the first time we can meet this private Marilyn and get to know her in a way we never have before. This work is a collection of written artifacts notes to herself letters even poems in Marilyn's own handwriting never before published along with rarely seen intimate photos. These bits of text jotted in notebooks typed on paper or written on hotel letterhead reveal a woman who loved deeply and strove to perfect her craft. They show a Marilyn Monroe unsparing in her analysis of her own life but also playful funny and impossibly charming. The easy grace and deceptive lightness that made her performances so memorable emerge on the page as does the simmering tragedy that made her last appearances so heartbreaking. This work is one that will redefine one of the greatest stars of the twentieth century and which nearly fifty years after her death will definitively reveal Marilyn Monroe's humanity. Contents: Personal note 1943 -- Undated poems -- "Record" black notebook around 1951 -- Other "Record" notebook around 1955 -- Waldorf-Astoria stationary 1955 -- Italian agenda 1955 or 1956 -- Parkside House stationary 1956 -- Roxbury notes 1958 -- Red livewire notebook 1958 -- Fragments and notes -- Kitchen notes 1955 or 1956 -- Lee and Paula Strasberg -- Letter to Dr. Hohenberg 1956 -- Letter to Dr. Greenson 1961 -- Written answers to an interview 1962 Supplements: Some books from Marilyn Monroe's personal library ; The favorite photo ; Funeral eulogy by Lee Strasberg ; Chronology ; Literary constellation.

Farrar, Straus and Giroux hardcover

I Rescued Marilyn Monroe: And Other Adventures of a Singular Person
NP Los Angeles: N. Bishop / C. Garlovsky 1989. First Edition. Plastic Sheet. Very Good. 16 b/w Photographs including Plates & Upper wrapper. 4to - over 9" - 12" tall. Slight scuffing and rubbing to upper wrapper clear plastic; chiefly at upper right corner; slight browning to leaves chiefly at spine edges; few pencil annotations chiefly one-word additions and/or corrections to text; else a nice clean copy. 2 153 leaves plates rectos only. Self-published issue of the revealing memoir of the Los Angeles-based lifeguard prizefighter and sometime stunt person; other notables in addition to Monroe include Carroll Baker Leo Gorcey Robert Mitchum Anthony Quinn and others. Scarce in any format; this copy bound in clear mylar upper wrapper and black plastic lower wrapper with 3 brass brad fasteners at spine edge. As for why the title features Monroe: "in 1954 she was working on "River of No Return" in Canada's Banff National Park when she slipped on a rock and fell into the fast-moving Bow River. L.A. lifeguard Norm Bishop who was working as a stuntman plunged in and grabbed her keeping her afloat. The stunt director and actor Robert Mitchum piloted a raft downriver to get them. Twentieth Century Fox publicists were quick to credit Mitchum with rescuing Monroe. "Mitchum tried to correct the error" Verge wrote "but given the power of the studio's publicity agents it was to no avail"." see LA Times review of "Los Angeles County Lifeguards" by Verge. N.
