About the book:- Jiddu Krishnamurti is an eminent thinker of our times who has addressed the problems of the contemporary world. He has invented a new language in articulating the issues and has a global appeal. He has consciously put aside the known philosophical categories and approaches in understanding the problems of the human life and the world. He has understood that the problems are due to the partial and prejudiced understanding rather total understanding. 'Tradition' and 'Revolution' are the recurring themes of his talks. He is critical of both tradition and revolution in his own terms, which goes against the historical notions of both of these terms. Krishnamurti goes against all the organised and historical religions but retains the idea of religiousness by redefining it. He finds the solution to all existential problems in the individual. He argues for change in the individual psyche or psychological revolution. He calls it as a religious revolution. He mediates both tradition and revolution through 'religious revolution'. This work offers an unconventional understanding of Krishnamurti and makes sense of his ideas by locating him in contemporary setting or context. This is a critical examination of Krishnamurti's insights in the light of the contemporary thinkers and trends of the East and West. This work critically appreciates Krishnamurti in the war-ridden society of the present times and simultaneously provides the space for rationale of identity politics against institutionalised injustice. Glossing was a scribal practice in use since antiquity, but it was in the Middle Ages that it acquired a wider meaning and a different role, becoming one of the most widespread forms of literacy in the Germanic West, including the British Isles. Most of the essays collected in this volume focus on the late Anglo-Saxon period, that is a well-identified time-frame spanning from the Benedictine Reform to the eleventh century. As recent scholarship has convincingly established, the second half of the tenth century and the beginning of the eleventh saw the blooming of Anglo-Saxon scholarship and a remarkable advance in educational practices. Within this cultural resurgence, glossing undoubtedly played no small role and was particularly vital in centres such as Abingdon, Canterbury, and Winchester. In the contributions to the present volume, the relationship between glosses and the text they accompany is always explored on the basis of their manuscript context. The essays are devoted to both Latin and Old English apparatuses of glosses as well as to specific items of the Old Norse and Old Saxon glossarial production.

Insieme al Contra Amaurianos sono editi gli altri documenti del XIII secolo relativi ad Amalrico e ai suoi seguaci: atti del processo, censure ufficiali, sermoni, cronache storiche, testi teologici e canonici. Un'ampia introduzione affronta i problemi della attribuzione e datazione del testo, ne esamina le fonti, e perviene a ricostruire - con esiti molto diversi dalla storiografia tradizionale - il pensiero degli eretici. Sulla base di una nuova classificazione e valutazione dei testi, la dottrina amalriciana non e piu posta in rapporto all'universo speculativo del Periphyseon di Giovanni Scoto Eriugena, ma si configura come un sistema ispirato a un radicale rifiuto di Dio e della trascendenza, lontano dalla tradizione cristiana e isolato nello scenario dei movimenti ereticali. The De sex rerum principiis is a twelfth-century (c. 1155) pseudonymous philosophical cosmology attributed to Hermes Mercurius Triplex, which has been read and cited frequently in the Middle Ages. Solidly placed within the Hermetic tradition by authors writing as early as the late twelfth-century, the text is unique in the medieval Hermetic tradition as quoting at length well-known authors of its own time such as William of Conches, Bernardus Silvestris, Adelard of Bath, and Hugh of St. Victor. Also unique is the amount of material quoted verbatim from Latin translations of Arabic astrological texts composed by al-Qabisi, Saul ben Bishr, and Masha' allah, and from the best known astrologer of late antiquity, Firmicus Maternus. While these sources provide the author with a wealth of cosmological data, Ps. Hermes himself provides the philosophical framework of cosmic principles which govern discrete regions of the cosmos. Consequently, apart from being an important witness to the new integration of Arabic astrological texts into the Latin intellectual climate of the twelfth century, the text is especially interesting as an example of philosophical cosmology seeking to account for all the dynamics of the universe by means of a particular set of divine principles. Like William of Conches, whom he quotes at length, Ps. Hermes sees the motions of the cosmos as fundamentally immanent motions of divine power, although unlike the Chartrian author, who grounds the dynamics of the material cosmos in the transcendental motions of the Trinity, especially the Holy Spirit, the author of the De sex rerum principiis makes no mention of Christian themes, preferring, perhaps under the cover of his ancient pseudonym, to characterize his principles by a hierarchy of traditional Western philosophical terms: causa, ratio, natura, mundus, machina mundi, and tempus/temporalia. Furthermore, as a result of its unique characterization of the action of divine immanence as the qualitative motion itself of the cosmos, the De sex rerum principiis must be seen as one of the most important witnesses to the continuing allure of Stoic physics in the Middle Ages. Finally, the De sex rerum principiis is an important witness to twelfth-century conventions of reading and composition: while unattributed verbatim quotations of sources are placed strategically throughout the text, upon closer inspection one finds that the pseudonymous author has made subtle changes to virtually all of them in a way that provides the reader with a subtextual narrative that reveals important clues to his underlying philosophical agenda, as well as to the literary unity of the work itself. Abbe de Chancelade en Perigord et eveque de Cahors, Alain de Solminihac (1593-1659) est une figure marquante du mouvement de reforme pastorale de l?epoque baroque. Forme a Paris, il entreprend en 1623 le relevement spirituel et materiel de son abbaye de Chancelade qui devient, en moins d'une decennie, un centre a partir duquel la reforme canoniale s'etend a la Saintonge, au Limousin et a l'Angoumois. Cette extension se heurte a la volonte du cardinal de La Rochefoucauld et de Charles Faure qui transforment la congregation de Sainte-Genevieve en une congregation de France destinee a regrouper dans une organisation centralisee toutes les branches de l'ordre canonial. Au terme d'un long conflit, dont les etapes sont ici reconstituees, la reforme de Chancelade n'echappe a l'absorption qu'au prix de l'abandon de son expansion. La carriere de l'abbe de Chancelade connait un tournant majeur avec sa nomination a l'eveche de Cahors en 1636. Religieux devenu eveque, il transpose son ideal de perfection chretienne dans l'etat episcopal et entreprend la reforme de son diocese selon le modele tridentin et l'exemple de Charles Borromee : reconstitution du patrimoine episcopal, statuts synodaux, mise en place de vicaires forains, visites pastorales, missions prechees par les chanoines reguliers qu'il a amenes avec lui de Chancelade, fondation d'un seminaire confie aux pretres de la Mission. Cette ferme action reformatrice s'est durablement heurtee a une opposition clericale organisee. Son role deborde largement son abbaye et son diocese. Comte de Cahors et baron de Quercy, Solminihac appuie de son autorite temporelle le pouvoir royal durant la Fronde. Influent dans l'Eglise de France, etroitement lie a Vincent de Paul, membre de la Compagnie du Saint-Sacrement, il joue un role important dans les affaires du temps, qu'il s'agisse de defendre les prerogatives du Saint-Siege, de condamner l'Augustinus ou d'obtenir la nomination d'eveques conformes a son ideal tridentin. Abbon de Fleury , Un moine savant combatif (vers 950-1004)

Sa mort violente pour la cause de la reforme monastique le fit venerer d'emblee comme un martyr. Aujourd'hui nous nous appretons a celebrer le millenaire de cet evenement. Abbon, ne vers 950 a Orleans, fut un des grands moines de son siecle, entrainant son monastere dans la ferveur et le travail, soutenant d'autres monasteres sur ce chemin. Abbes, moines, chanoines, mais egalement les princes venaient le consulter, confiants dans sa science du droit et son discernement. Elu abbe de Fleury en 988, il participa a plusieurs conciles ou il se distingua par des prises de position tres fermes en faveur du monde monastique. Abbon fut un savant repute, l'un des plus connus de son epoque, un de ceux par qui nous a ete transmise la science de l'Antiquite. Il exerca une influence sur la legislation de son temps, dans le respect du droit, au service de la liberte de tous, et il fut ainsi un precurseur de l'effort que notre epoque s'attache a promouvoir. En outre, par ses voyages en Angleterre et en Italie, par ses relations multiples a travers l'Occident, Abbon est deja, d'une certaine maniere, une figure europeenne. Languages : French.

Cet ouvrage se presente comme une introduction d'histoire litteraire et doctrinale au premier volume de l'edition critique des oeuvres de Hugues de Saint-Victor. Il exploite les donnees fournies par l'etude de la tradition manuscrite du De archa Noe et du Libellus de formatione arche, qui aboutissent a une perception et a une reception renouvellees de ces traites. Du premier ouvrage on a tente, non seulement une histoire, mais une prehistoire: car il a connu un stade oral, celui de collationes dont on aura pu cerner au plus pres le contenu avant de reconstituer les procedes redactionnels du maitre victorin. Au cours de ces entretiens du cloitre une pedagogie de l'image avait ete mise en oeuvre, utilisee conjointement avec la parole. Et de meme que la parole donna naissance a une oeuvre ecrite (le De archa Noe), de meme le dessin qui l'accompagnait est donne sous une forme litteraire, par un ecrit qui en livre les modalites concretes de realisation (le Libellus). Le statut de cet ecrit, longtemps incertain ou atypique, fut originellement celui d'un appendice, distinct mais non disjoint du De archa. Le Libellus est transmis par la tradition manuscrite en deux etats: une version breve et une version longue. Le reviseur en fut le victorin lui-meme, dont la psychologie d'auteur est ainsi pour une part devoilee. Un chapitre propose des complements ou des precisions touchant la datation relative des oeuvres du victorin. L'image employee par maitre Hugues avait ete support de ce que l'on pourrait appeler exegese visuelle. L'histoire du salut, telle qu'elle est representee dans la figuration de l'arche de Noe, est meditee selon les trois sens scriptuaires medievaux, qui correspondent en outre a une serie d'exercices spirituels, selon la sequence lectio-meditatio-speculatio-contemplatio.
