This later 1834 edition is specifically dedicated to the "Catholics of Ireland" whilst the first 1823 Irish edition was dedicated to The Archbishop of Dublin at the time Rev. Murray. The original author/editor is a Nathaniel Bacon SJ and that Latin edition was translated by Edward M into the present English. Original calf over boards with the spine being crudely repaired using a black cloth tape and the back board having been re-attached at some point. Previous owner's name in ink on front paste down a convent in Delgany Ireland with no other markings present. Very moderate foxing present and the majority of that is restricted to the end papers and the page margins. The text block is solid with a quite clean interior. . Richard Grace. This table "Calendier des Dimanches" is on pages 44 to 47 of the preliminary section. The readings for the weekday masses are given in full. The text of the Eucharistic liturgy is in a larger font with full rubrics. Five indices or "table" at the back: "Table biblique de lectionnaire des f�ries et des f�tes" "Table des psaumes" "Table des f�tes" "Table des pr�faces" and lastly "Table g�n�rale". The photographs feature Kowal in his various priestly vestments in formal shots with family members and alone portraits of the Kowal family and group snapshots of St. Mary's Church parishioners and choir girls. Includes a color portrait of Kowal in an elaborate gilt frame with conclave glass measuring 12 by 18 inches. The photos are in very good condition and housed in folding clamshell boards save for two loose ones many of which bear the mark of Zaff Studio and Strauch Studio New Kensington photographers. Hardcover. 8vo - 22 x 14 cm.; vii - 369 pp. Of the preliminary pages only the title page the dedication page and the contents page are present; 6 of at least the 8 noted from pagination. A posthumous work edited by Charles Butler and dedicated to Lord Henry Arundell. This is Volume I only and comprises Meditations I to XIV and Discourses XV to XXVI. Both the meditations and discourses are listed under the general title of Discourses hence the consecutive numbering. The text block itself with the preliminary page exceptions as noted is complete with the expected binding weaknesses 'tis rather tender. Deckled edges with the head edge being trimmed and with browning/staing on on the margins. Minor damp staining to the margins of the later pages with the paper being still supple. The present casework is much the worse for wear and would need to be removed and replaced or at least repaired. Somewhat scarce as this was a private printing done at the behest of Lord Arundell who acted as the benefactor for it. . J. P. Coghlan - Printer. hardcover

Translated from the German "Drei Schriftauslegungen" by Stella Lange. Guardini considers Faith the word of God from the prologue of the gospel of John Hope the yearning of creation from Romans chapter 8 and Charity the canticle of love from First Corinthians chapter 13. The dust jacket flaps are pasted onto the front end papers and from them: "Guardini's contribution to Christian letters is almost a unique phenomenon of our age for even the more controversial aspects of what he speaks or what he writes are respected for their substance and importance." The library markings are a label on the lower spine corner of the front board a stamp on the title page and attachemnts on the back end papers. Previous owner's name crossed out on the title page. Otherwise clean with a sound binding and showing only mild wear to the externals with the exception of the sunned and faded spine. Worth reading Yes and more than once.
