Rev. George Junkin
The Bearings of College Education Upon the Welfare of the Whole Community. The Baccalaureate in Miami University Delivered August 10th A.D. 1843
Rossville OH: J.M. Christy Printer 1843. Very Good. Rossville OH: J.M. Christy Printer 1843. First Edition. Octavo. Removed. 23 pages. Evidently separately published but likely also collected in a larger set of proceedings from the University as the signatures present are D and E. A wide ranging address Junkin concludes by assessing the fluctuations of the graduating class which had diminished and expanded in size over the years "Some have abandoned literary pursuits altogether; some are perhaps dead. Such is human life! How unstable! How confused and apparently anomolous! Such as it is you must meet it. Look forward then to the vast field before you." Miami had reached its enrollment peak a few years previous but was on the decline in Junkin's unhappy and unpopular tenure. He would resign the next year though the school's bad fortunes would continue leading up to the infamous "Snowball Rebellion" of 1848. Heavily foxed and browned and rubbed along edges. Overall a sound copy. J.M. Christy, Printer unknown

FISH Simon / ARBER Edward editor.
Simon Fish of Gray's Inn Gentleman. A Supplication for the Beggars. Spring of 1529.

Blue cloth gilt title to front and spine small tear to spine discolouration to spine and a few small white spots to front board. G. "Simon Fish died 1531 was a 16th-century Protestant reformer and English propagandist. He is best known for helping to spread William Tyndale's New Testament and for authoring the vehemently anti-clerical pamphlet Supplication for the Beggars A Supplycacion for the Beggars which the Roman Catholic Church condemned as heretical on 24 May 1530. His pamphlet can be seen as a precursor to the English Reformation and the Protestant Reformation. Fish was eventually arrested in London on charges of heresy but he was stricken with bubonic plague and died before he could stand trial.Fish authored his incendiary pamphlet Supplication for the Beggars during his second exile in Antwerp. The 16-page pamphlet accused the Roman Catholic Church of everything from avarice to murder to treason". wiki. . Westminster: Archibald Constable and Co., 1895. hardcover

MARPRELATE Martin / ARBER Edward.
An Introductory Sketch to the Martin Marprelate Controversy 1588-1590.
Westminster: Archibald Constable and Co 1895. The English Scholar's Library of Old and Modern Works series. Pp.xiv/50 toning to endpapers. Blue cloth gilt title to front and spine sunning to spine. G. "The Marprelate Controversy was a war of pamphlets waged in England and Wales in 1588 and 1589 between a puritan writer who employed the pseudonym Martin Marprelate and defenders of the Established Church. Martin's tracts are characterised by violent and personal invective against the Anglican dignitaries by the assumption that the writer had numerous and powerful adherents and was able to enforce his demands for reform and by a plain and homely style combined with pungent wit. While he maintained the puritan doctrines as a whole the special point of his attack was the episcopacy. The pamphlets were printed at a secret press established by John Penry a Welsh puritan with the help of the printer Robert Waldegrave about midsummer 1588 for the issue of puritan literature was forbidden by the authorities". wiki. .
