Small 4to in eights approximately 185 x 135 mm 7 x 5¼ inches engraved architectural title page with the figures of Moses Aaron Jeremiah and Isaiah vignette of the Sheldonian Theatre at the bottom title and imprint in small central rectangle page ruled in red including 2 pillars either side of title the New Testament has only the letterpress title with the imprint "Printed at the the Theater in Oxford and are to be sold by Moses Pitt at the Angel in St. Pauls Church-yard Peter Parker at the Leg and Star over against the Exchange in Cornhil Thomas Guy at the Corner of Little Lombard-Street and William Leake at the Crown in Fleet-Street London Anno 1679. The engraved title was probably inserted in only a few copies - Darlow and Moule. Ruled throughout in red collation: pi1 A-3A8 3B4 3C2; A-K8; chi1 A-P8; A-F8 G4. A1 in the O.T is the Dedication to King James with the books of the Bible on the reverse leaves 3B1-3 in the Old Testament have been misbound in the Apocrypha between A8 and B1. The leaves of text in the O.T. before signature F are printed in the smaller type also used in the Apocrypha. Bound in full calf panelled in gilt on both covers plus a central mounted red and gilt lozenge on upper cover black and gilt on lower cover amateurishly rebacked in calf with no label or lettering all edges gilt gilt inner dentelles turn-ins marbled endpapers. Edges of boards and corners slightly rubbed gilt decorated leather bookplate of Annabella Southwell and Katharine Annabella Bisshopp her daughter on front pastedown very small grazed areas on fold of endpapers front and rear general title trimmed in upper and lower margins no loss to image leaves trimmed throughout at top and bottom often with loss of signatures and catchwords very occasionally shaving last line of text in righthand column loss of last line in same column on 5 pages a couple of brief neat ink notes on Bible book list and on first O.T. page 4 others within small paper repairs to margins of A4 3C2 and in N.T. A2 sometimes with loss of few letters small chip to edge of Q6 2E4 2K8 maximum 20 mm 1" in the O.T. with loss of a few letters on 3 4 or 5 lines occasional small pale stain to margins of text a few pages with several no loss of legibility final page of Psalms slightly dusty. A very good but trimmed copy of the second English Bible printed at Oxford.
