‎Pierre le Chantre dont la date de naissance est imprecise (v. 1127-1147) est mort a l'abbaye de Longpont en 1197. Maitre en theologie, chantre de Notre-Dame de Paris, il a enseigne a l'ecole cathedrale, exerce une grande influence dans le cercle intellectuel de son temps et laisse une oeuvre importante dont une Summa de sacramentis, des commentaires de la Bible et le Verbum adbreuiatum. Dans ce traite de morale centre sur les vices et les vertus, Pierre le Chantre s'attaque aux manifestations de l'orgueil et de l'avarice dans le clerge seculier (simonie, venalite, luxe, etc.); il aborde aussi des sujets de droit, de justice, d'enseignement, de predication et de pastorale des sacrements. Le Verbum adbreviatum existe en plusieurs versions qui different par leur longueur, l'organisation et la presentation des chapitres, ainsi que le style. Le volume a paraitre est l'edition princeps de la version la plus longue. Le qualificatif de textus conflatus qui lui est attribue en souligne la caracteristique essentielle, a savoir qu'elle est formee d'une mise bout a bout, sans grand souci de tri ou de cesure, de passages presents dans les autres versions (version breve et textus alter). Les redondances qui resultent de cette combinaison et d'autres arguments permettent de soutenir que le textus conflatus est une version posterieure aux deux autres, etablie apres la mort de Pierre le Chantre et probablement par l'un de ses disciples. ‎Les Versus d'Isidore de Seville (connus aussi dans la tradition litteraire comme Versus in Bibliotheca, meme si ce titre ne s'accorde pas exactement au contenu et a l'esprit de cet ouvrage) constituent un cas singulier dans la vaste production de cet auteur. Ces distiques elegiaques, de construction presque parfaite la plupart des fois, sont les heritiers d'une longue tradition du genre epigrammique qui remonte a l'Antiquite classique et notamment aux modeles de son compatriote Martial. La presente edition critique met a la disposition du grand public un ouvrage unique qui a eu neanmoins enormement de succes de son epoque. Une quarantaine de manuscrits du VIIe au XVIe siecles (beaucoup d'entre eux inconnus jusqu'a present) ont ete collationnes pour mener a bout cette edition. La plupart des lectures de ces manuscrits ont ete retenues pour l'apparat critique et ont contribue a l'etablissement d'un texte profondement solide. Le lecteur pourra y trouver un apparat critique rigoureux ainsi qu'un autre apparat de sources accompagnant chacun des tituli isidoriens et leur correspondante traduction castillane qui vise a transmettre non seulement le contenu du texte latin le plus fidelement possible, mais aussi une bonne partie des procedes stylistiques employes par l'auteur. L'Etude critique qui precede l'edition proprement dite consacre plus d'une centaine de pages a la description exhaustive de tous les temoins manuscrits et des editions utilisees pour l'etablissement du stemma codicum. L'histoire de la tradition du texte a revele l'importance de cet ouvrage apparemment peu significatif et a permis a l'editeur de reconstruire un processus de diffusion tres rapide depuis le scriptorium de Seville jusqu'aux Iles Britanniques, la France carolingienne et les territoires italiens et germaniques. De itinere deserti constituye una sola obra dividida en dos libros de orientacion pastoral sobre el conocimiento del bautismo, transmitida enteramente solo por un codice. En la Introduccion se recoge el analisis historico y literario del tratado asi como el estudio detallado de las fuentes. La edicion critica del texto cierra el trabajo sobre la obra. Il offre en regard le texte et la traduction des deux grandes recensions latines : la recension traditionnelle ou 'vulgate' (latin-V), dans une edition qui remplacera desormais celles de Meyer (1878) et de Mozley (1929) ; la recension decouverte par l'auteur dans le manuscrit de Paris lat. 3832 (latin-P), restee beaucoup plus proche des formes textuelles conservees en grec, en armenien et en georgien. Zusatzlich editiert sind zwei kleinere Hildegard-Viten, die eine uberliefert im Kontext der Briefe Guiberts (Octo lectiones), die andere selbstandig in einem Sammelband mit Heiligenviten (Vita abbreuiata traiectensis Inc. Anno incarnationis Domini millesimo centesimo). Dem Editionstext vorangestellt ist ein Einleitungsteil, der den Charakter einer eigenen Abhandlung hat und auf wichtige Aspekte insbesondere zur Textgeschichte der Vita S. Hildegardis eingeht. Denn der Endredaktor Theoderich von Echternach hat bei ihrer Fertigstellung mehrere Vitenansatze zusammengeschoben, u. a. eine mutmassliche Autobiographie Hildegards von Bingen, eine wohl noch zu Lebzeiten Hildegards entstandene Lebensbeschreibung des Monches Gottfried und Aufzeichnungen von Klosterangehorigen. ‎The Vitas Sanctorum Patrum Emeretensium (BHL 2530, CPL 1069, Díaz y Díaz 214) is a fundamental text for the Visigothic Spain of the sixth and seventh centuries (and in particular for Mérida, the ancient Emerita Augusta) from the literary, linguistic and historical points of view. In spite of being a hagiographical text, it contains so much information about the period that, as it has been said, there is no equal in any other historical source of the Early Middle Ages not only in Spain, but also in the majority of Western Europe. A new edition of this work was needed, for the critical edition available (J. Garvin, Washington, 1946) has its base in only three manuscripts. It is also clear that any new conclusion concerning the chronology of the work, author, and above all, the basis for the reconstruction of the text had to stem from a critical study and comparison of all manuscripts. In the present edition, by way of study and collation of all known manuscripts (ten in all, complete or fragments) gathered together for this edition, the manuscript history of the text was reconstructed. This permits for the first time the establishment of two existing editions of the same work: the first written about the year 635 and the second, whose interpolations and variants are compiled in a supplementary apparatus, that can be dated between 672-680. The biggest interpolation of this second edition, a version of the Vita Fructuosi (seed of the future Vita Fructuosi), is edited in an appendix. The edition is completed with the usual indices: index nominum et locorum, index auctorum and index uerborurn et rerum notabilium.‎

‎Cet ouvrage est consacre a une presentation tres detaillee de plus de trois cents oeuvres regroupees sous l'appellation "Litterature religieuse judeo-hellenistique", une appellation bien plus judicieuse que l'habituelle: "Apocryphes ou Pseudepigraphes de l'Ancient Testament". Il reprend tous les livres apocryphes rattaches a un personnage ou a un evenement de l'Ancient Testament, classes selon l'ordre de la Bible; y sont joints les auteurs hellenistiques, ainsi qu'une serie d'oeuvres mentionnees habituellement, a l'exclusion toutefois de Philon et de Flavius Josephe. La presentation de chacune des oeuvres commence par un resume. Viennent ensuite les temoignages des auteurs anciens et des catalogues d'oeuvres apocryphes. Sont ensuite analysees toutes les versions anciennes de l'oeuvre: textes hebreu, arameen, grec, latin, syriaque, arabe, ethiopien, copte, armenien, georgien, d'autres encore. Pour chaque version, le lecteur trouvera la liste complete des manuscrits connus, la presentation de toutes les editions (base manuscrite, principes d'edition, etc.), ainsi que les traductions en langues modernes. Sont donnees ensuite les indications sur la date, l'auteur ou le milieu d'origine de l'oeuvre; toutes les hypotheses sont reprises avec les arguments developpes. Sur tous ces points, l'ouvrage vise en effet a etre exhaustif. L'interet de cette litterature n'est plus a demontrer. Elle reflete d'abord les defis poses au Judaisme de l'Antiquite, en particulier dans sa confrontation avec l'Hellenisme. Les deux attitudes possibles, ouverture ou repli sur soi, se retrouvent, avec bien des nuances, dans cette litterature. Florissante a l'epoque de la naissance du Christianisme, cette litterature religieuse a exerce une influence notable sur le Nouveau Testament (l'index biblique le montre clairement). On peut ajouter enfin qu'elle manifeste l'efflorescence remarquable de la litterature juive antique: a cote de ce qui deviendra le rabbin. Language : French, Greek.‎

‎Il est inutile de presenter aux hellenistes, aux specialistes des textes chretiens en langue grecque, aux byzantinistes, aux bibliothecaires, bref a tous ceux qui s'interessent a un titre ou a un autre aux manuscrits grecs, le celebre Repertoire de Marcel Richard. La seconde edition de cet indispensable outil, parue en 1958, est depuis longtemps epuisee, de meme que le Supplement I, paru en 1963. Depuis 30 ans, notre connaissance des collections de manuscrits grecs a tellement progresse, qu'a l'evidence une nouvelle edition s'imposait pour tenter de rendre compte de leur etat present. Cette troisieme edition, due a un disciple de Marcel Richard, compte plus de 2.500 unites bibliographiques (alors que la seconde edition et le Supplement I en portaient 950). L'auteur a fait un effort particulier de depouillement des publications signalees afin d'eviter a l'utilisateur d'inutiles pertes de temps. On trouvera -notamment- dans cet ouvrage de nombreuses informations inedites sur les collections, jusqu'a present mal connues, d'Europe de l'Est. Une table de concordance permettra de retrouver aisement les numeros affectes aux publications dans la seconde edition et le Supplement I. ‎The medieval Hebrew exegesis in its entirety is indisputably a major achievement in the work of the Jewish sages. The exegesis, designed firstly to elucidate the meaning of biblical terms, whose language was not always understood by members of the Jewish communities scattered throughout the Christian and Muslim world, and then to annotate them for academic and practical purposes, played an important role in enhancing understanding of the sacred texts and adapting them to the needs of schools and communities. The author defines the genre of the exegetic commentary and characterises the methods employed: he traces the stages of its development across the different socio-cultural backgrounds of medieval Judaism; he draws up specific critical criteria; he follows the spread of the genre in time and space, weighs up modern editions and shows us the contribution these commentaries make to the history of the Middle Ages. At the end of the book is a bibliography detailing the principal commentaries and tables showing how the genre is chronologically, geographically and thematically divided.
