Scoppia un diverbio con alcune donne di religione musulmana che la accusano di aver contaminato il recipiente per attingere acqua al pozzo. In quanto cristiana, non avrebbe dovuto usare lo stesso bicchiere: lei è haram, impura. Il 19 giugno, le donne denunciano Asia alle autorità sostenendo che, durante la discussione, avrebbe offeso il profeta Maometto. Nonostante contro di lei non ci sia nessuna prova, viene condotta nel carcere di Sheikhupura. Condannata a morte per aver rifiutato di convertirsi all'islam, in seguito alle pressioni internazionali la sentenza viene sospesa, ma Asia dovrà comunque passare nove anni in prigione, tra sofferenze e privazioni. Definitivamente assolta,oggi ha lasciato il Pakistan e vive in Canada con la famiglia. Questo libro-testimonianza è il racconto della sua vicenda, diventata il simbolo delle aberrazioni dell'estremismo religioso.

GIOVANNI da CAPESTRANO (1386- 1456), francescano, inquisitore, cercò di convertire gli erertici USSITI di cui parla nella prima lettera a LADISLAO il Postumo appena divenuto re di BOEMIA; la seconda lettera parla di TURCHI: nel 1456 fu incaricato dal Papa, insieme ad alcuni altri frati, di predicare la Crociata contro l'Impero Ottomano che aveva invaso la penisola balcanica. Percorrendo l'Europa orientale, il Capestrano riuscì a raccogliere decine di migliaia di volontari, alla cui testa partecipò all'assedio di Belgrado nel luglio di quell'anno. Egli incitò i suoi uomini all'assalto decisivo con le parole di san Paolo: «Colui che ha iniziato in voi quest'opera buona, la porterà a compimento». L'esercito turco fu messo in fuga e lo stesso sultano Maometto II venne ferito. Continuò a lottare per mesi ma il 23 ottobre egli morì a Ilok, in Slavonia, oggi Croazia orientale.
