A picture of this book is available upon re Blackmer 1453. "He was one of the first to study the area" (Blackmer). First published in French in 1853, the author, a member of the French Institute, travelled with several others, including the botanist Michon, from Beyrout (Beirut) through parts of Syria to Jerusalem and around the Dead Sea area, including Massada, Jericho, Sodom, Zoar, through the deserts, etc. He describes the peoples, ruins, archaeology, nature, scenery, cities, etc, in detail.
