Translated by Serpil Özaloglu. 1000 copies were printed. Hassan Fathy's plan for building the village of New Gourna, near Luxor, Egypt, without the use of more modern and expensive materials such as steel and concrete. Using mud bricks, the native technique that Fathy learned in Nubia, and such traditional Egyptian architectural designs as enclosed courtyards and vaulted roofing, Fathy worked with the villagers to tailor his designs to their needs. He taught them how to work with the bricks, supervised the erection of the buildings, and encouraged the revival of such ancient crafts as claustra (lattice designs in the mudwork) to adorn the buildings.‎

Baybars al-Mansuri (Rukn ad-Din Baybars ad-Dawadar al-Man?uri al-Kha?a?i), (?-1325). He was purchased from the prince of Mosul in c. 1260 and participated in several of Qalawun's campaigns during the reign of sultan Baibars. In 1284, he was given command of fifty horsemen. In 1287, he was appointed governor of Al Karak, a post which he held until Qalawun's death in 1290. After his first work (a historiographical work, known as Zubdat al-fikra fi ta'rikh al-hijra; "quintessence of thought in Muslim history"), his second work, Al-Tuhfa al-mulukiyya fi l-dawla al turkiyya, is based on the Zubda and covers only the Bahri period, 1250-1325. His Zubda is a universal chronicle which ends just prior to his death, and it is by far the more informative work, but the Tuhfa contains some original content as well. Both works rely heavily on Ibn Abd al-Zahir. Both works were written with the help of the Coptic scribe Ibn Kabar.‎

‎Berkuk devrinde Memlûk sultanligi (XV. yüzyil Misir tarihine dair arastirmalar).‎

‎Very Good Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In Turkish. [x], 206, [1] p. Berkuk devrinde Memluk sultanligi. Mamluk Sultanate in the period(s) of Barquq. Al-Malik Az-Zahir Sayf ad-Din Barquq (ruled 1382-1389 and 1390 -1399) was the first Sultan of the Mamluk Burji dynasty. The name Barquq means "plum" in Arabic, and was taken by Barquq on his arrival in Egypt. Barquq was of Circassian origin, and was acquired as a slave and became a mamluk in the household of Yalbugha al-Umari in approximately 1363-64 (or 764 on the Islamic calendar). During the reign of Sultan al-Mansur Ali, when Barquq held considerable influence in the Mamluk state, he brought his father Anas to Egypt in March 1381. Anas converted to Islam and became the first father of a first-generation mamluk to be mentioned by the Mamluk era sources because of his Muslim faith; the fathers of first generation Mamluks were typically non-Muslims. Anas was promoted to the rank of emir of one hundred (the highest Mamluk military rank) and was known for his piety, kindness and charitable acts. He died ten months after his arrival to Egypt. Barquq placed many of his own family in positions of power to the detriment of fellow Mamluks, attempting to solidify his position. He sponsored the construction of the Madrasa-Khanqa of Sultan Barquq in the center of Cairo. Completed in 1386, it was a pious foundation designed to serve as both a khanqah and a madrasa. It is one of the three dominant Islamic monuments clustered on the street Bayn al-Qasrayn in Fatimid Cairo. Although often called the Mausoleum of Barquq, only his daughter is buried there. arquq ended the public holiday in Egypt celebrating the Coptic New Year Nayrouz. (Source: Wikipedia).‎

‎Very Good Tatar Paperback. A little split on cover. A good copy. Large roy. 8vo. (25 x 18 cm). In Tatar (with Arabic letters). 41 p. Yana milli yul.= Yana millî yol. Jahrg. 4. Januar 1932. No: 1. Chefredakteur und Herausgeber: Ayas Ishaki. Ishaki was a leading figure of the Tatar national movement, author, journalist, publisher and politician. Gayaz Ishaki was born in 1878 in the village of Yaushirma near Kazan to a Mishar Tatar family. He was home-schooled by his father at an early age and was sent to study in a madrasah (religious school). He continued his education in the Russian-Tatar teachers' school (1898-1902). Gayaz Ishaki moved to Kazan in 1904, where he became acquainted to socialists and adopted some of their views. He became involved in revolutionary activities and subsequently was arrested and sent to a prison near the city of Arkhangelsk in northern Russia in 1907. After the February revolution of 1917 he was involved in activities aimed at achieving cultural autonomy for the Volga Tatars and other Turkic peoples of Russia. As a result of his activities, the Soviet authorities started a campaign of harassment and persecution against him and his associates. He was forced to emigrate in 1920. After settling in Germany, Gayaz Iskhaki started publishing a Tatar-language magazine "Milli Yul" ("the Way of the nation") in 1928. In 1939 the magazine was closed and Iskhaki decided to immigrate to Turkey. After World War II he became involved in political activities. At this stage his main goal was the restoration of the Tatar nationhood lost in 1552 when the Kazan Khanate was defeated and occupied by the Moscow Principality. Throughout his life Gayaz Iskhaki traveled to Poland, Germany, Japan, China and Turkey where he tried to establish Tatar-language press and unite disparate Tatar emigree communities. Gayaz Iskhaki died in 1954 and was buried in Edirnekapi graveyard of Istanbul.‎

Jahrg. 4. Dezember 1932. No: 12.
