Hardcover, the text volumes are uniformly bound in contemporary half calf and marbled boards, spines with raised bands between compartments, direct gilt lettering and volume number, black fleurons in remainders, gilt ornamentation at head and foot, handsome marbled endpapers, joints of one spine neatly mended. In fine condition, bright interiors. The Atlas is slightly larger as issued, keeping ample margins all around, and bound differently in full tree calf, gilt tooled sides and edges, gilt spine, crimson morocco lettering-piece in gilt, marbled endpapers; bit rubbed in places, spine ends chipped, corner-tips bit worn, light foxing and yellowing mostly to blank margins and verso of plates, small old mark to verso of one plate. Norden's "Voyage d'Égypte et de Nubie" was first published posthumously in 1755, by the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters. Norden, who died in 1742, managed to see part of his work in print when he published in 1741 a pilot edition under the title "Drawings of Some Ruins and Colossal Statues at Thebes in Egypt". Complete set, the text volumes with the small bookplate of Docteur Rickaert inside each cover.
