Sur les milliers de détails d'une vie qui a disparu. C'est la seule façon d'insérer la catastrophe dans un cadre familier et d'essayer de raconter quelque chose. De deviner quelque chose... Er trug maßgeblich dazu bei, die vormals elitären Bereiche der Wissenschaft und Kunst einem breiteren Publikum bekannt zu machen. Algarotti gehörte zum engeren Kreis um Friedrich II. von Preußen, mit dem er zeitlebens in engem Kontakt stand. Seine sorgfältige Nachvollziehung, Dokumentation und Aufbereitung der Experimente Newtons einerseits (etwa durch sein Werk "Il Newtonianismo per la dame" / "Newton für die Dame") sowie die Tagebuchaufzeichnungen seiner Russlandreise anläßlich der Hochzeit der Zarennichte andererseits brachten ihm breite Rezeption und Anerkennung unter den Zeitgenossen. Ein Jahr vor dessen Regierungsantritt lernte Algarotti Friedrich II. kennen und freundete sich mit dem Kronprinzen an. Dieser war es auch, der ihn in den Grafenstand erhob und den Italiener in die 'Tafelrunde von Sanssouci' einführte. Algarotti war, neben Voltaire, einer der wenigen zivilen Empfänger des Kriegsordens Pour le Mérite und erhielt nach seinem Tode durch Friedrich ein Grabmal mit der Inschrift ?Algarotto Ovidii Aemulo / Newtoni Discipulo / Fridericus Magnus?. - Leder geringfügig berieben und Ecken leicht bestoßen. Neuere Widmung mit Tinte auf dem fliegenden Vorsatz. Papier leicht gewellt mit unmerklichen Altersspuren auf sehr wenigen Seiten, sonst sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar der interessanten Korrespondenzsammlung. - Edition première, en bon état et reliure à cuir contemporaine.‎
