‎Maurice de BECQUE (1878-1938), a principalement travaillé pour les éditions Georges Crès et Simon Kra. Aminalier reconnu, il illustre dans cette veine L'Appel de la forêt (London), Le Livre de la jungle (Kipling), Le Roman de Renart et de nombreux contes. Ses pochoirs sompteux ont été enluminés par le grand Saudé (Osterwalder, II, 90). Pendant la première guerre mondiale, Maurice de BECQUE fut interné en Allemagne dans un camp de représailles spécial pour soldats russes. Seul au milieu de 12.000 paysans ukrainiens il en profita pour apprendre leur dialecte et recueillir des histoires fabuleuses, qui forment le fond de son répertoire littéraire et graphique. En 1922, il publie un ouvrage recueillant ces légendes. Il exposa au Salon d'Automne. Le dessin représente une jeune femme armée à l'attitude fière, dans un paysage dont les couleurs et l'atmosphère respirent l'âme Russe. Cette jeune-femme nous fait penser au personnage de Colomba de Prosper Mérimée. Plis, salissures, déchirures, traits de coupes marginales n'atteignant pas le dessin. Us.‎
